Omaha/Marquette Trade Analysis

Post by Greeney03 » Thu Jan 26, 2012 12:39 am

Brad and I got the deal done last minute tonight. I traded away my top 4 prospects (Johnson, Warr, Dodson, and Molina) for Marquette's Ace - Jay Lee and LF Ian Botham.

In my eyes, this is a fair trade. I would like to know what you guys feel about this trade.

Discuss.

quite a haul for Lee. But if it puts you over the top its totally worth it.

If you need to ask twenty minutes after making a deal at 1:30 in the morning, perhaps you should have waited until morning to do the deal.

Provided Lee stays at an elite level for three or four more years, there's nothing terribly wrong with this one.

I like the deal personally, no doubt about it. I just want to see what others thing about this deal. :)

Glad to have served as a spark. And Brad, happy to see you pressed to grab both of the extra prospects in this deal.

You really like takin' credit for everything there, don't ya :) I imagine you're the one who called the Tigers and said they should sign Prince while simultaneously calling the Rangers, Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Rays adn everyone else telling them to stay away.

The history of trade honestly was that Mike (PHX owner) reminded me of the live talks when we were at dartball last night. I saw that Omaha had ping'd me about Lee (he has done it in the past this season too if i recall) but then backed off when some others deals started coming in (and I wasnt' responsive).

In Live trade-talk last night we talked about Lee in a deal and Matt mentioned LEe/Botham for Johnson/Warr. I made it clear it wasn't enough and wasn't goign to happen. Blake I think actually piped up with a deal very close, minus Botham for Warr. Johnson and the ohters were on the table. I wasn't really up on moving Botham since he had a decent contract, played good "D" but was underachieving AGAIN at the plate, but if I wanted to make the deal I figured I was going to have to give up an OF not on his last legs but serviceable now. The only option there was Botham (Since "Bastard" Is 32).

So our deal actually started to transpire on PMs earlier in the night. looking at his team there was going to be no way I'd do it with without Johnson, Molina, and Dodson. His need for a LF and Botham being my only serviceable one just made it easier to add that in the deal.

I'll be honest, I know that Warr has some splits and is in AAA but I'm not sure why you wouldn't think he's ready now vs. BOtham. He's not the best fielder, but as a guy who likes "D" he's on the low end of my serviceable list. Any lower and he's in trouble with me but I really like Warr now. He's goign to platoon out there in LF with Kevin Newton since I want to see how he plays.

Actually not at all. Drinnkin' some tea, watching for the sim, doing some reading for work. I get a kick out of you being the guy behind everything :) Did you invent post-its too?

This is goign to be a very wierd SIM for me since without Lee my pitching staff is completely in the tank. I went the draft route and picked up a bunch of pitchers that had a quality or two that I liked outside of higher intelligence and work ethic. I'm hoping some of them will "Avila" on my (Develop rapidly and out of nowhere) or I'm going to be using some of the cap room I've opened this year to buy me some pitching.....

Brad, you can have John Doherty for free. I'll even throw in a free Slushie.

Maybe if Matt has shown up for Dartball like he's been indicating forever then he could take some credit here :)

For some it is. I haven't seen Mike have one and I haven't myself, so for us probably not. It is a nice way to get out of the house and tell dirty jokes and now talk baseball. Since Mike has joined the league our discussions have become very league-centric in general terms (what stats to watch, ratings, recent trades, etc).

Honestly didn't think about it until after it was too late, and you didn't remind me either or tell me where it was.
