Montreal received:
SP Dani Garcia

Sacramento received:
OF Wasim Ala'(#11 BBA)
IF Heng-zong Guan(#54 BBA)
SP Matt McCartney(#71 BBA)

The Blazers were looking to make a statement and change the philosophy to feature pitching and defense over hitting. Garcia was coming off of a very good 2043 where he went 17-6 with a low three ERA and a 1.12 WHiP. The two higher rated prospects in the deal were very rough. Ala' had great potential but a very long way to go to reach it(he was only 19 at the time). Guan was the same way but with a lot less upside than Ala'. McCartney was the guy we did not want to give up but we didn't want to wait on him to develop either. Garcia was off to a rough start to the 2044 season going just 1-5 with an ERA almost at seven but he was 39-22 entering the season.

Who Won the Trade?
This one is still a little bit up in the air despite the horrible 2049 that Garcia experienced in Montreal. In 2046 he went 17-5 with an ERA just over three while leading the Johnson League in innings pitched as the Blazers won 98 games and division crown. He couldn't match those numbers in 2047 & 2048 but the talent(ratings) is still there. Montreal management and staff are frustrated with him and have put him on the trade block but he still possesses the ability to be that same pitcher he was in 2046 and he's only about two years older than McCartney.

Despite being the lowest ranked prospect of the three at the time McCartney has become the center piece of the deal for the Popes. Without him the deal was leaning in favor of the Blazers. McCartney made his BBA debut the following season and has pitched well36-26, 3.55 ERA in 550 IP) so far. He will decide who wins this deal when everyone is done playing. Ala went as high as #5 on the prospect list and currently sits at #26. He's never been able to hit consistently but he does a lot of other things. He's a great defender all around the outfield and he can get on base without getting a hit(BB or HBP). He'll make a great fourth outfielder and could start for a manager that is defense first. Guan was traded away in another deal and didn't make a mark one way or the other in Sacramento.

I'm giving Sacramento the edge here because I think McCartney will have a better career in the end than Garcia. What ever they get out of Ala' is just gravy.

I think your analysis is spot on. The Popes weren't going anywhere in 2044, so unloading Garcia was almost a must to remake the roster. McCartney has been solid for us and his 500k salary this season has helped us overspend in other areas. Ala' will be my starting centerfielder next season. He pounded 12 dingers in 240 at bats this season for us. If he can keep that mediocre pace, I'll be happy with him, his .330 OBP, and acceptable centerfield defense.

Fun look back on this one.
