There is no doubt that at one time Angel Zalapa was one of the best players in the Brewster. It's also no secret that those days are well behind the 31 year old infielder. It's been almost 10 years since he was a 40 home run player and although his skills have declined that $27 million per year contract that he signed in 2041 has stayed the same. No longer able to patrol at shortstop the way he was use to the Blazers brought Zalapa to Montreal in the middle of '44 for his bat. They eventually moved him to second base where he was a very good fielder but his bat never caught fire. Fast forward to early 2046 and the veteran was just not a good fit for the expansive Ubisoft field. It was not a surprise that interest for the aging superstar was fleeting at best. The Blazers ended up settling for a dart board of prospects, all 22 or younger, led by 2B Gehrig Jelinowicz who at 22 year old was ready for the big leagues. The Blazers also sent underperforming relief pitcher Agniruha Gaekwad to the Cyclones....and did I mention, they retained all $27 million of Zalapa's 2046 salary.
The Trade:
Omaha received: IF Angel Zalapa and RP Agniruha Gaekwad
Montreal received: 2B Gehrig Jelinowicz, SS Wayne Brushett, C Orlando Garcia, P Raul Ortiz, and 2B Mu'ayyad bin Hassan
Results:
Montreal: Jelinowicz struggled and the Blazers went looking for and acquired another second baseman down the stretch. By season's end he was on the outside looking in at a three man platoon. Montreal ended up winning 98 games so it all worked out for the team. Jelinowicz's future is uncertain as he will have to fight for a roster spot in 2047.
Omaha: The Cyclones wanted Zalapa to play short and that just didn't work out. He was horrible defensively and worse at the plate than he was in Montreal. Eventually Zalapa was traded again, this time inside the Cyclones' division to eventual 107 win Sluggers squad where he played much better. Gaekwad posted a 3.38 ERA and .99 WHiP in 29 innings for the Cyclones.
Winner: It's hard to say who won this trade. Both team's made the play offs and Omaha won the championship but Zalapa wasn't with either by the end of 2046. Despite retaining Zalapa's contract the Blazers still made almost $40 million in profit to use going forward. Omaha has the ring so I'll give them the edge despite the fact that neither team received any significant contributions from anyone involved in this trade in 2046. One thing to keep in mind is that we will not know the full extent of this trade for a few seasons as the prospects involved will either contribute or flame out.

Interesting series Herb, and credit to you for being willing to revisit deals you made. I think the prospects have a good chance to work out for you, though that hurts to say as a rival GM in the division.
