You have to look past the ratings and look at performance on this one. Zalapa wasn't performing up to his rating or salary and he wasn't coming back to Montreal at $27 million and I don't think we'd have many trade partners at that price. We save the $5.5 million buyout next year and have a chance to sign him during free agency at a smaller price(he likely won't negotiate with us if we decline his option). Gaekwad has been awful for three seasons in spite of his 55 overall rating AND he's out of options so I was looking to get anything for him.
From Omaha's side Zalapa is a rental for the rest of the season as they are already over the cap and cannot afford to pick up the option. If Gaekwad turns it around then good for him, he wasn't doing it for us.

Fans in the Omaha outfield seats will need to bring hard hats for protection when Gaekwad comes in to pitch.
Just a warning, Herb...first time we face Jelinowicz,
he might get drilled as a sort of "welcome to the bigs".
