Marvin Insworth had pushed the Aztecs into a corner. They had tried all year long to resign him but the two sides could not come up with an extension that satisfied everyone. They then put him on the trade block but the entire league knew that Insworth had all of the leverage. I think both teams did well in this trade. The Cougars got the long term solution at second base in Insworth. Shortly after the trade was made Insworth signed an extension that could keep him in Charlotte anywhere from sour to six years(based on contract language). Officially the deal is worth $91 million over six years but the final two years include a player opt out(after year four) and a vesting option(for year six).

In Kasturirangan the Aztecs got someone with a name harder to pronounce than Twin Cities River Monters. This kid needs a nickname in a bad way but on the field he is almost a clone of Insworth with a slightly lower ceiling. First off he's only 18 and he already at seven in contact and nine in gap. He'll be hitting for a high average all through the minors. Just like Insworth he won't draw a lot of walks and he'll be a step below the veteran on defensive ability. Isat is a leader in the club house that has a high work ethic. His path to the BBA should be a short one. I think the return for Insworth was much better than I thought the Aztecs would get given the situation and just six weeks left in the 2045 season.

Sometimes I like to pay to get that extra time to talk about an extension before FA starts. Whether or not I signed Isworth, Kasturirangan was never going to crack my roster, baring a bunch of injuries.

Isworth was a tough pill for me to swallow. I had some conversations earlier in the season about him but was probably asking too much. He was on a decent track before he got hurt, which ruled out a comp pick. Trading a 24 year old middle infielder with a 4-5 WAR ceiling is never a good look. If he can stay healthy and play to his 2044 level this is a spectacular deal for Charlotte.
