I’m talking about Clulow. This one isn’t as bad.

Let me go at this one like this then:
- You guys like WAR: Tremblett has a BBA career average WAR of 2.57. Nicto has a BBA career average WAR of 0.76.
- Tremblett is costing an average of 5.55M over the next 4 years. I don't remember what the number was but I believe Nicto was going to cost me more than that, even in arbitration, over the next 3 years.
- Nicto had a BBA career ERA of 4.94, a 0.89:1 K:BB ratio, and a career WHIP of 1.64. Yes, Tremblett cannot hit for average and strikes out well more than he walks, but 46% of his hits are for extra bases.
- Add in some great defense at both 3B and 1B for Tremblett and, for me at least, I valued him more than Nicto at this time. With a little kicker of Vleugel, while probably not a BBA talent, I was happy with the trade.

Oh, hey, nice catch. Tremblett got signed to an illegal extension before you traded for him.

I'll leave the rest of the comment be, though. I'm happy that you're happy with the trade.

It's not illegal:

One concrete contract rule strictly enforced is that any player with less than 5 years of ML service time will not be allowed to sign a contract extension of longer than 3 seasons. Additionally, any player with less than 5 years of ML service time may not be tendered an extension of longer than 3 seasons.

Right.

He signed a 1-season deal for 2034, then a three-season extension later. All legal.
