1996 - Baltimore & Madison trade four

Post by Fat Nige » Sun May 08, 2011 5:29 pm

Baltimore send
3B Masuichirou Bunjiro & 1B Alphonso Torres

To Madison Wolves for

SP Rick Cushing and CF Alan Sue

Rick remains in Baltimore and although currently on the D/L is Monarchs No.2 starter with a franchise record of 55-33 with a career 4.01 ERA in 118 starts. Alan Sue remains too and although the trio of Labrie / Caves & Clarke has left him with few opportunities he has played a vital role backing up all three in 279 games hitting a Monarchs’ career .301.

Bunjiro and Torres lasted a mere season and a half season in Madison before both were shipped off to Chicago for pitcher Chet Steadman.
Bunjiro had 197 games in Madison hitting 50 homers at a career average of .322 and his currently appeared 437 times for Chicago with 81 homers and a .282 average while Torres hit a similar 39 homers, .309 average in 198 Madison appearances before making another 428 appearances in Chicago hitting at a .308 clip with 65 more homers and 238 driven in.

Meanwhile back in Madison, Chet Steadman went 40-14 in 73 starts and a Wolves ERA of 2.89 before heading off to Greenville this season in a four player trade.

A trade which has enriched the fortunes of three franchises and undoubtedly helped all three to be constant challengers at the top of their division.

Looks like some pretty even deals across the board. The original deal looks good and then all future deals that involed these players looked pretty good.

I was only involved in the one that sent Steadman to Greeneville.

Although it was before my time, I couldn't believe just how joined at the hips Bunjiro & Torres were. To move twice in the same deal and then to produce almost identical stats each time is way scarey
