Re: Doubleday Series, 1996
GAME TWO:
The Sluggers stay hot, downing Valencia 9-5 (6 runs in the last two innings for LOU, who overcame FOUR Stars homers in this one). (LOU leads 2-0)
The Bobwhites' John Doherty picks up for his co-ace Christen, leading Washington to a 2-0 victory. (Series tied, 1-1).
The Bulls are making Chris Ramsey look like a soothsayer. Ron Burgundy (and the rest of the "Channel 4 News Team") lead Hackensack to a 6-3 win over Birmingham. (HAK leads 2-0).
This other FL series was supposed to be a close one and Austin evens the score with a 7-5 comeback win over Seattle (T-Rex had another HR for the Storm). (Series tied 1-1).

GAME 3:
This just in, the Louisville Sluggers are good. 10-6 win over Valencia, David Smurf= 2-2, HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB. (LOU leads, 3-0).
WHAT a pitchers duel!!! Chicago scored one run in the bottom of the 8th to beat WAS 1-0 and take the series edge. (CHI leads 2-1).
Hackensack keeps rollin'. 7-5 over the Bandits, Alistar Sharpe with his 2nd homer of the series. (HAK leads, 3-0).
Austin holds off Seattle, 5-3. And just because I don't get enough chances to say it, GUAM FANTOMHORSFLI hit a homer for the 'Bats! (AUS leads, 2-1).

Re: Doubleday Series, 1996
GAME 4:
When Valencia's bats are on, it's hard to beat them. THey avoided the sweep by beating LOU 7-3 on the back of five homers, 2 by BO Jackson! (LOU leads, 3-1).
The odds of Shane Christen losing two games in this series were slim to none. He didn't fail again, leading WAS to a 5-1 victory over the Black Sox and a series tie. (Series tied, 2-2).
Well, Chris Ramsey....it wasn't a sleep so Aaron can rest easy. BIR over HAK 5-2. (HAK leads, 3-1).
Seattle's War Astudillo hit his 2nd homer of the series and drove in 4 to lead the Storm to a 6-3 win over Austin in this back and forth series. (Series tied 2-2).

Re: Doubleday Series, 1996
GAME 5:
Valencia took the Sluggers to extra innings, and some small ball in the 11th led to two runs and another Stars win, 10-8. (LOU leads series, 3-2).
Chet Steadman got his second win of the series, was supported by two homers by Max Dubois and one by the all-time king Henry Jones in beating WAS 6-4 (CHI leads series, 3-2).
HAK put the first team out of the Doubleday behind John Ross Riles, Jr. He is a beast and HAK beats Birmingham 3-0. (HAK WINS SERIES, 4-1).
The Riverbats take an edge here by downing Seattle, 8-3, behind Felix Pan who goes to 2-0 in the series. (AUS leads series, 3-2).

Re: Doubleday Series, 1996
GAME 6:
Louisville swatted away the pesky Stars behind the arm of Nick Lapan and the bat of Kenare Sobah (4-5), with a 6-3 series decisive win. (LOU wins series, 4-2).
This is one for the ages. With Chicago beating Washington 9-5 going into the Bobwhites bottom of the 9th, they had Larry Dunn in the game to finish it. After giving up singles to the first two hitters, the Black Sox decided not to goof around and brought in their closer, Daniel Marquette. After a sac fly ad and a two run double, the Black Sox still led 9-8 and Marquette got Rocky Framaggio to ground out for the second out of the inning. But then, Larry "BITCH" Jenkins came up and with 2 strikes, hit a 433 foot homer to right field that wins the game for the Bobwhites, and they play for another day with Christen heading to the hill for the deciding Game 7. WOW!!! (Series tied, 3-3).
ANOTHER great game here. 2-2 into the bottom of the ninth, with Austin holding homefield advantage here. Ted Dever, just one of the best closers in baseball, is on the hill for Seattle. He strikes out Modrewski looking, then the Riverbats send in much maligned Monty Lynch to pinch hit. He delivers, with a single! Next batter, Tex Correia grounds out but Lynch advances to second. With two outs, the Riverbats hope is reserve outfielder Christian Martarell. He hits a single, and Lynch is motoring...he SCORES!!! The Riverbats win the game...and the Series!!! (AUS wins, 4-2).

WAS vs CHI
Christen was brought in on short rest but didn't have it today. Chicago romps, 11-3. Resurrection Santos hits two homers (3 for the series) and the Black Sox will move on to the Cartwright Cup!!! (CHI wins series, 4-3).

Overall, 2-4, so I was hitting .500, that would put me in any lineup

Re: Doubleday Series, 1996
Thanks, Brian, and good luck in the next round. Your team scored 19 runs off me in the first three games - of course I was dead. Anyone see that kind of carnage coming? At least I didn't get swept.
It's actually a great year for Birmingham even though we didn't win a playoff series, and heck, we weren't favored anyway. I wonder how different it might have been if my Game 2 starter was Bedgood.
Season recap coming for Birmingham and a look ahead to next year. Lots of fun times here!
Oh, and Chris - two out of four puts you about average (or would make you a statistically insignificant hitter; see Paul Denniston on my team). At least you didn't miss them all.

Riles Jr. had 4 hits all year.. 2 of them doubles.
Playoffs start.. game 1.. 2nd inning. Home run.
He pitched pretty good in the series too.
