Graphic Representation of the Pitching Ratings Migration

I'm a big fan of graphs, in case you haven't already figured that out. I took the charts from my last post and made graphs that I believe do a good job of conveying the old versus new values of the pitching ratings.

Here you can see that 5 Stuff is the new 7.

Is 5 Movement the new 7-8?

5 Control is the new 6.

So a very quick examination of what I'm finding from these graphs and players in the league, a 7-7-7 pitcher is likely a very solid #2 or #3 starter.

Would be a #1 on Portland or team's similar to mine, but a 7-7-7 guy isn't a top 15 ace pitcher but a very good one.

Jaquot Natta is now a very interesting pitching prospect. His POT rating grew to 50 as SP and he’s 5/5/7 right now in both OVR and POT. He could become a really valuable player if he can be a legit starter and a strong position player. I’m really hoping that happens. He would be a lot of fun to watch over the next several years.

Luis Gonzalez
Barney Lindsey
Steve Warren
Yoshii Takuda

Id probably label those guys as anywhere from #1 through a #3.

The guys I'd label as aces now appear to have one rating above 7 in at least one area.

Eckhoff is the only #3 there and he's 7-7-6. Lindsey and Takuda are frontline starters. Warren is an ace except for his stamina. Are the Gonzalez ratings as a reliever? That's how he was used last year.

Maybe you're doing the scout thing where there's only like 10 aces in the game, 20 #2s, 20 #3s, etc?

As you astutely pointed out earlier, his abilities as a starting pitcher all comes down to whether that's a high 5 or low 5 stuff rating.

Reliever convert him though and you have a good pitcher for sure.

That's as a RP. As a starter he is 6/7/7. Probably a #3 or #4 starter. Unless he somehow improves his secondary pitch this winter. Then maybe he can be a 2/ solid 3 at worst.

It is kinda crazy that there is such a huge bubble around the mid tier players. You can easily pick out stars and scrubs, but that middle class has become a big fog of war. I know I've seen it in scouting my own team. There are a bunch of AAA players that I look at and go... "he should be perfectly fine to play in the BBA". But I know from past ratings and stats, they were in AAA for a reason.

I love it. That's how the sport works in real life. Some of us are going to need to review the stats more closely.
