Impact of OOTP 25 on Flamethrowers

Post by Bob Breum » Thu Apr 18, 2024 5:52 pm

OOTP 24 had many pitchers whose Stuff rating was well above the nominal 1-10 scale, 320 of them to be exact. What happened to these guys during the migration to OOTP 25? How did the game reevaluate their overall Potential?

Here's the graph, using the same presentation as my earlier post on sluggers:

Pitchers below 3 and above 13 were not included due to sample size considerations.

This is a very different result than with the sluggers. Here we see the same reduction in overall Potential at the high end, albeit somewhat less dramatic than the sluggers. What's different is the the increase in overall Potential centered on OOTP 24 Stuff of 6. It suggests that OOTP 25 is attempting to correct these pitchers' overall potential to better reflect their actual value in the game, i.e., these pitchers were previously underrated.

This change plays into my hands some and, to even more of an extent, the Montreal Blazers. This is why I was surprised Erik said something like “my pitching staff got even worse”.
