The Walkoff Watch 2058: Sims #18 and #19

Post by cheekimonk » Sat Mar 23, 2024 5:03 pm

Image Sim #18 had us here at The Watch thinking the dog days of summer were sapping the urge to revel in dramatics, but Sim #19 picked up the slack and how with 3 walkoffs on the 7th of August, 4 on the 8th, and 5(!) on the 11th. A couple of teams almost fueled the surplus between them. We also had the first position player to derp off a loss. How fun!

The Walkoff Watch Terminology

balkoff When a pitcher balks in the winning run.
derpoff When a pitcher walks in the winning run, hits a batter with the bases full, or the winning run scores due to a wild pitch or error.
200-proof walkoff When the home team scores in the bottom of a previous inning to extend the game and then scores with a walkoff in a subsequent inning.
pimpoff When the home team scores a walkoff following the visiting team tying the game to cause extra innings (or more extra innings) or scoring what would have been the winning run if the home team hadn’t responded.

Sims #18 & #19 Team and Player Highlights
- Sacramento (24-10) remains bonkers in 1-run games. At the other end of the scale, Brooklyn (4-21) and Bikini (10-21) keep scuffling along.
- Here we go! Phoenix (8-10) got involved in 5 walkoffs going 3-2, and San Fernando (4-7) took 3 of 4.
- Boise (7-8) and New Orleans (9-3) each swept a pair of dramatics, while Rockville (10-7), Charlotte (8-10), and Atlantic City (4-7) split 2.
- Calgary (8-5), Las Vegas (7-7), Hawaii (2-8), Portland (5-12), Brooklyn (1-9), and Louisville (5-6) *whew* all went 0-fer in 2 walkoff affairs.
- Rockville’s John McMuttray put himself in the Silver Atlas discussion delivering his 3rd last-inning victory.
- Louisville’s Cade Miller and Phoenix’ Huang Cheng charged up the Goat standings giving up 2 walkoffs apiece.
- Hawaii’s CF Elvin Hilliard became the first position player to allow a walkoff when he botched a throw in the 12th inning against San Fernando on the 29th of July.
- In addition to Mr. Hilliard, Louisville’s Miller logged his derp by walking in the winning (losing?) run and Las Vegas’ Ray Keller did the same. Charlotte’s Alejandro Chávez earned his by uncorking a wild pitch on the 7th.

Hilliard shouldn't have been in center. He's a SP lol. My team is so tired the AI is putting pitchers in the field.

I was wondering if that was a typo.

Kato’s 3-run dagger was the first homer of his career.

Wow, you're right! Hilliard is listed in the box score at CF and committing 2 errors:

Hilliard started the game. I figured it was injury replacement or something. @Jwalk100 do you have a backup center fielder set in your depth chart?
