I was surprised at the number of pitchers taken in the first round, because to my eye, after Weller, the pitching pool just didn't seem particularly special.
By the time that it was our selection, the hitting pool didn't seem very special either, unless you wanted a corner outfielder, first baseman, or DH. Taking a flyer on a young starting pitcher with elite movement potential and strong intangibles seemed like our best bet. We followed that with a first baseman (who thinks he's a corner outfielder) and a corner outfielder (who thinks he can play center field) in subsequent rounds. Not ideal.

There was a lack in raw hitting numbers, be it a slap hitter, slugger, OBP guy, et. al., that persists in every draft. It's not always the bat that makes you grab a position player. SS Joe Hall might sustain a CEI hitting off a tee, but he is almost assured of holding a spot in the majors for a few seasons (after a few seasons marinating). You get a guy like Graham McFadyen who has no business being on a BBA squad but has been at that level for the most part of the last 3 seasons.

Great job as always Aaron. I like the pick given that I went with what I thought was the best player out there at my pick. Though I will say that it was a tough decision, but at least I didn't auto pick.

I think there was one no-brainer (Weller) then probably 4-5 first rounders, then probably another 5-10 early round picks. I prioritized my picks accordingly, figuring the position players would still be there when I was ready.

I'm really hoping Rusty Miller can be at least a 3-4 starter for us by 2061 when I will likely need some cheap SP help to offset contracts elsewhere. And I considered the other Miller quite a bit with my pick, but ultimately I needed someone who was a bit more ready. After Weller, I think the younger Miller might have the potential to be the second best pitcher from the 2058 class.

YMMV on if that's a complement or an insult!
