Generation Gamma is Here!

Post by Bob Breum » Sun Dec 10, 2023 5:23 am

This season marks the professional debut of Generation Gamma, the generation born after 2039 and before 2055. The oldest players among them were born on New Year’s Day in 2040: Louisville’s first round pick, 3B John Coxtolstoy (rookie ball), and 3B Jaime George (Charm City R affiliate). The youngest is 16-year-old SP Hamal bin Qudamah, born January 30, 2041, with Brooklyn’s rookie league team.

Two Gen Gammas are already assigned to AA, both on the roster of the Sioux City Xplorers, Omaha’s farm club: 17-year-old RP Li-cong Jia and 16-year-old SP Kyu-Jin “Sweetness” Pak. Imagine being only sixteen, in AA, with a nickname already! Pak is living his best life.

RF Hector Porrett is representing Gen Gamma in A ball, playing for Bikini’s affiliate. He was their fourth-round pick.

Down in Short Season A, there are 25 members of Gen Gamma, including the fifth overall pick, Portland’s DH of the future, Mynorli “Old Man” Gaajlimitz. Also representing in Short A are Montreal’s 2nd rounder, 16-year-old SP Harry Stewart, and Las Vegas’ 3rd rounder, 16-year-old C Adam Rumbold.

The other 244 are playing rookie ball.

---------------

Generation Alpha, the league’s senior citizens, remains a major force to be reckoned with. Generation Alpha were born from 2010 to 2024. There are 177 of them in the big leagues still, and an additional 151 of them on minor league rosters around the league. The oldest big leaguer is Phoenix’s 41-year-old 2B Angel Zalapa, and the youngest is Atlantic City’s RP Todd Schroeder, who was born on Christmas Eve in 2023.

Twin Cities leads with a dozen elders, and Montreal, Phoenix, and Portland each carry ten Gen Alphas on their active roster. Many of the league’s superstars hail from this generation, with Calgary’s 36-year-old 1B Larry Stinson and Jacksonville’s 33-year-old SP Juan Marroquin leading the way for the oldsters so far this season.

-----------

Who do you think will be the first member of Generation Gamma to make their big league debut? Will it be Old Man Gaajlimitz?

Given the talent in the group, one wonders if we're seeing a new Alpha. :)

We'll see but I still think the group is more flawed than they look right now. Will be fun to watch.
