Calgary drafted Robert Carlson with the 59th overall pick of the 2051 draft. He's possibly the only player Calgary took in that draft who has a real shot at a BBA career. Born in Welby, Colorado (a suburb of Denver), Carlson was sixteen years old at the time he was taken. Robert looks like he still has a couple years of development (maybe more) in the minors ahead of him before he'll be ready to pitch in the majors. The right-hander had a 45 future value as a starter and potential ratings of 7/8/6 at the time he was drafted, with actual ratings of 5/4/5.

This is what his official scouting report has to say:

He should headline a quality arsenal with an outstanding changeup. His stuff should play well above average once he's finished developing. And he has [such] great command of his pitches that he'll rarely give up a long-ball. Carlson's ceiling is that of a fourth starter, and possibly more.
Fourth starter looks like the ceiling to me, but fifth starter or swing man look like the most likely outcomes for Carlson. Not a lot to get excited about, but I think we can be reasonably confident that he'll get there.

The most recent scouting evaluation has Carlson's future value at 50, with potential scores of 8/8/6. His current overall value is rated at just 30, with pitcher ratings of 6/7/6. He has a three-pitch mix of curveball, changeup, and cutter. He has fallen out of the Top 100 since December, and is the #7 ranked prospect (and #3 ranked pitching prospect) in the Pioneers' system. Carlson's velocity currently tops out at 96 mph. His changeup, rated at 6/10, needs to improve for him to realize his potential, and is likely why his Stuff rating is lagging a bit.

Carlson didn't reach Class A until his fifth season as a professional, in 2055. Once there, he started 26 games and pitched 131 1/3 innings. He did alright (3.21 ERA, 2.5 WAR, 88 FIP-). Stamina rating of 6 points to a pitcher who will struggle to pitch a full six innings on a regular basis.

As far as injuries go, Carlon's injury proneness is rated as 'Normal', though finger blisters seem to be a recurring problem for him.

Carlson doesn't have a lot of personality, the a low Leader rating, and not much else to go on. He is described as 'Mild Mannered'.

Still just 21, I like him as a decent reliever someday.
