Somebody Should Put Him in a Corner

To Sacramento we go to evaluate the Popes' sole Top 100 propect, Fareeq bin Su'ud. A Bahraini national, bin Su'ud was an international amateur free agent signing for the Popes back in January, 2053. Bin Su'ud was a pretty raw prospect at the time he was acquired as a sixteen year-old, and given a hefty $6.1M signing bonus. He had a future value of 50 as a center fielder at the time. Fareeq hits and throws right-handed, with batting stats so far suggesting a slight reverse split.

This is what his official scouting report has to say:
He has well above average contact potential. His power doesn't live up to his frame, but he'll still do some damage. He provides plus defensive value. Scouts project bin Su'ud to fill a key role for a contending team in the big leagues.

Fareeq's future role on a team is a bit of a mystery, but center field does not appear to be in the cards. He does currently have better defensive ratings (6/6/6) in the outfield than he does in the infield (5/4/4/4). He has split his time so far mostly at first base and left field, which makes sense. 'Plus defensive value' seems a bit generous, though.

The Popes promoted bin Su'ud out of the international complex fairly quickly. He spent his age 17 and 18 seasons in the Rookie league the past two seasons. He hasn't been over-matched at that level and appears to be still learning and developing, which is encouraging, with wRC+ scores of 107 and 89. He has good tools, but next to no plate discipline, with a high strike out rate and few walks.

The most recent scout evaluation has bin Su'ud's future value set at 65 as a first baseman, with potential ratings of 9/7/5. Current ratings are 4/6/2/1/1, so he has a long way to go if he is to reach his potential. He doesn't quite have the power potential you would hope for in a first base / corner outfield prospect, but the hit tool and doubles power could still keep his OPS up around .800. He has average speed and base running skills. He is rated as Durable, and hasn't suffered injuries of any kind in his two seasons in Rookie ball.

Make up is very good, with high Loyalty and Work Ethic, and low Greed. He shouldn't have too much of a problem with pace of development, but being an international free agent signing, started out a bit behind schedule.
