Some Penicillin Should Clear That Up

01/01/2056

The Charlotte Flyers have a pitching prospect, Tarasios Stroggylis. Stroggylis hails from Thessaloniki, Greece. Charlotte acquired Stroggylis via scouting discovery back in September of 2053. A right-hander with a good frame, Stroggylis is entering his age nineteen season in the Charlotte international complex.

At the time he was signed, Stroggylis had a future value of 20 as a starting pitcher with potential ratings of 6/4/5. Seven months later, OSA scouts revised these projections upward quite a bit, assigning him a future value of 60, with potential ratings of 11/6/7. Stroggylis was still very, very raw at the time (2/1/1), but scouts saw upside.

This is what his official scouting report has to say:
He throws a fastball, splitter, and changeup. His stuff can be overwhelming to batters. Stroggylis has the potential to start in the majors, but he should ultimately settle at the end of the rotation.
Sure. If projections for Stroggylis are at all in the neighborhood of his true talent, then he could be a number four or five starter.

Stroggylis is still in the Charlotte IC, so we have no stats of any kind to look at. Nothing to measure him by except for scouting projections. Maybe he'll hit the minors this year.

The most recent scout evaluation has Stroggylis's future value pegged at 50 with potential ratings of 11/6/7 as a starter. After two full seasons in the IC, his velocity has not budged from 87-89, and he remains very underdeveloped for his age with 2/1/2 ratings. He was, back in 2054, the #60 prospect in the BBA. Now he's sitting at #99. At this point, I don't feel like were even looking at a legitimate prospect. There's just been no positive movement by the measures we have for two years. Absent some rapid development in the next couple of years (enough to get him to Class A by his age 21 season), it doesn't look like Stroggylis is headed anywhere but back home to Greece.

Stroggylis has an above average Work Ethic, so we know at least that this isn't holding back his development. Likely, he's more hampered by starting out so far behind and simply hasn't been able to catch up to where you might expect a 19 year-old to be at this stage. Charlotte doesn't have the option of firing it's IC pitching instructor, so the only thing they can do, besides continue to wait, is move him to Rookie ball. He turns 20 in August, so he'll be moving out of the complex in 2056 one way or the other.

This is a good reminder to myself not to always wait for them to turn 20 if they have good scouting numbers.

With the change to luck of the draw for intl amateurs these kinds of players will be extremely interesting to me.

I’m planning on moving him up once the Rookie season starts this year in hopes of giving him a boost. But yeah, his complete lack of development in the IC isn’t encouraging.
