Preview Helper - Team Preseason Survey
I have this idea that I hope might catch on. The idea here is for BBA (and GBC) GM's to fill out this survey, which I hope will help aid Team/Division preview writers (myself included) in their writing efforts and hopefully help us produce more accurate and relevant information.
Try to keep your responses short here - just reply to the original post, list the players, maybe a stat or two, and simple answers. That should be enough to help spur the creative process of preview writing.
I'll start and post my own answers below. Thanks and good luck in 2055!
* Top 3 new player acquisitions you're most excited about?
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
* Top rookie who should debut or get called up this year?
* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
* What's your most substantial staff change?
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
* Regardless of what the owner thinks, what's your 2055 outlook of these three: 1) Win Now!, 2) Neutral, 3) Rebuilding

* Top 3 new player acquisitions you're most excited about?
1. The 5 Extreme Groundball pitchers we acquired(Romero/Fields/Rubio/Crutcher/Herrera)
2. Mike Brodt, extremely popular team captain who rakes VS LHP
3. Murad Abdul-Alim.. cause I didn't end up spending $30-60 million on a multi year deal for aging CF
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
1. Juan Garcia was great for us last season. Just felt his chance of repeating was not worth a $24mil gamble.
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
1. Declining Quant Kouros may get bumped to make room for a 6th OF
2. I think I still have one or 3 too many RP
* Top rookie who should debut or get called up this year?
1. SP Ivan Martinez
2. LF/DH Anurodha Nayar (.344/.364/.719 in playoffs)
both had a brief cup of coffee last season
* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
1. CF Ed Rooney would fit great on this team, but probably not ready till at least next year.
* What's your most substantial staff change?
1. My bench coach and hitting coach retired after signing extension
2. Promoted pitching coach Sean McGrath who specializes in groundball
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
1. Probably the deepest 40 man roster I have ever had
2.Financial flexibility. Only 2 contracts longer than 2 years. 11 players have consecutive team options starting next year or following.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
1. corner outfield defense VS RHP(Simpson and Nayar)
2. catcher production may be iffy.
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
1. RP Peter Fuller was horrible last year. Going to play with his role a little, but if he gets off to a bad start, he could be the first to go.
2. Andy Elmer. the switch to extreme groundball pitchers is wasting his biggest talent.
* Regardless of what the owner thinks, what's your 2055 outlook of these three: 1) Win Now!, 2) Neutral, 3) Rebuilding
Modestly win now while pushing the financial ceiling. I'd be happy with playoff gates, don't think we are championship material.

1.) Pedro Gongora(I think he is still a rookie and is taking over for Zalapa at 2B)
2.) Stephen Futon
* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
1.) Enzo Bouton
* What's your most substantial staff change?
No staff changes.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
We're stereotypically built on offense. We score a lot of runs. Hit a lot of long balls, but also get on base as shown in the photo below.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
Bullpen remains the biggest question mark after several departures this off-season and no real addition. We did convert Leonardo Ramos to a bullpen specialist and he has knuckle ball which could be interesting.
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
SP Brian King(who has a NTC), but also dangled Du Wu out there as available.

SP Jaypee Estancia
LF Jorge Pena
Probably some other guy if I can get one cheap in ST
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
RF Chris Thomas
CF Frederick Brisset
Had to cut RP Tiernan O'Macken due to injury and cap issues last year and he signed with someone else before I could bring him back this yr...
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
Backup RF Julio Rivera
* Top rookie who should debut or get called up this year?
Even though we signed Jorge Pena to a major league contract, he has yet to see an at bat in the Brewster. If all goes well could contend for ROY
* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
Jodie Hanna. Someday soon she will be the first female player in BBA history.
* What's your most substantial staff change?
New trainer. Forget his name. Other guy retired.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
Snark, Sarcasm, and Irreverence
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
Everything equally. But the fact that I have like 5 guys eligible for Single A might be a problem.
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
Farad Bin Mubarak is my backup catcher but is starter material on any other team that doesn't have Ichizo Sugiyama in front of him. Hit .322/.349/.416 with 1.5 WAR last yr in 202 at bats.

Re: Preview Helper - Team Preseason Survey
Awesome idea! My answers follow. Thanks.

Well, after opting out, SS Socrates Kazantziakis agreed to come right back to Rockville. I'm thrilled about that.
Newly acquired LF Eric Wagner is next on my list. Hopefully, I can extend him. If nothing else, he should give me the kind of dynamic, gap-hitting player that I like.
The third player I'm most excited about, so far, is 2B Logan Niles. Knowing that he's Justin's kin, though, concerns me.
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
Bronx Cortez was the only guy I lost who I really wanted to keep. I let Vasco Fonzarelli walk rather than give him arbitration. I do have pangs of regret for letting a switch-hitter with a cool name walk, but I figured I'd share the love.
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
Wow, there must be a dozen of them! It would be nice to see any of my young pitchers who had a look last season finally settle into a full-time role in Rockville before their options expire: Jon Keys, Yoshimatsu Miyauchi, Christian Walker, Dave Woodard...
* Top rookie who should debut or get called up this year?
SS Ruben Alvarado has progressed quickly at each stage since I drafted him a couple of seasons ago. He totally fits my mold of switch-hitting, versatile 7-hole hitters. I could see him working his way to Rockville, especially as my Captain of Useful 7-Hole Hitters Cam Whitten suffers his biannual short-term injuries.
* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
SS Richard Vernon, at AA. I've pushed him too hard, too fast, as it is. I hope he's finding some regular haunts in Winston-Salem.
* What's your most substantial staff change?
Pitching staff or coaching? For pitching staff, it may be going to a 4-man rotation and keeping my starters on a very tight pitch count. Every game may be a sort of bullpen game. (Sorry, fans.) For my coaching/organization staff, I let my old Assistant GM walk and hired Eisaku Matsumoto on the cheap. In a league with no individual team scouting and so many restrictions on cap space and extending young players, I couldn't see the value in an Assistant GM.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
Corner OF Julio Barajas and SS Kazantziakis are my 2 most-reliable players. My team strength, though, is all the guys who can rack up multiple hits in a game. Now, if only we could get some kill shots over the fence on a more regular basis.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
Pitching. I haven't done a deep dive on it, but I feel like we had more 9-7 wins AND losses than any team in the league.
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
It doesn't matter, does it? Someone will walk away from any request for one of the league's 6 potentially transformational prospects.
* Regardless of what the owner thinks, what's your 2055 outlook of these three: 1) Win Now!, 2) Neutral, 3) Rebuilding

Kinda relieved to see the loss of Tiernan O’Macken stung for Phoenix cuz I only scouted his stats/individual ratings before offering and then after the first sim saw I gave guaranteed money to a 35 OVR reliever.

* Top 3 new player acquisitions you're most excited about?

SP Zak Johnson (FA)
LHP Jimmy Fisher (R5)
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
SP Ramon Gonzalez
SP Gerald Sizemore
RP Lorenzo de' Medici
Lots of innings to fill here.
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
1) Fisher is one to keep an eye on. With the Hustlers pitching staff in "transition", he will have a real shot to make the team.
* Top rookie who should debut or get called up this year?
Besides Fisher, keep an eye on righty Edward Joseph "Jeff" Pfeffer.
* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
RF Tunkut Saltik
We haven't had a Scout FInd that has been this good in....I can't honestly remember anyone. He has slowly developed from a non-prospect to one of the top prospects in the league.
PLAYER HISTORY
06/20/2050 Signed a minor league contract out of Turkey with the Las Vegas Hustlers organization.
01/01/2051 OSA scouting updated ratings (potential): Contact: 1 (4); Power: 1 (6); Eye: 1 (5).
01/01/2052 OSA scouting updated ratings (potential): Contact: 1 (4); Power: 2 (5); Eye: 1 (5).
01/01/2053 OSA scouting updated ratings (potential): Contact: 1 (5); Power: 2 (6); Eye: 2 (5).
01/01/2054 OSA scouting updated ratings (potential): Contact: 1 (6); Power: 2 (8); Eye: 2 (7).
01/01/2054 Promoted from the international complex to Rookie League Roswell.
06/30/2054 Named the #90 prospect in the BBA
07/09/2054 Was selected to the 2054 Brewster Baseball Association All-Star Futures Game.
11/10/2054 Named the #17 prospect in the BBA
01/01/2055 OSA scouting updated ratings (potential): Contact: 3 (7); Power: 2 (10); Eye: 4 (7).
* What's your most substantial staff change?
We actually retained our whole Major League staff. An up-an-comer to watch in the coaching ranks is first base coach Charles Hutchesson, a former Hustlers farmhand as a catcher.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
Catcher is our strongest position overall, with Pepe Prieto an established BBA starting catcher, Claudio Morgan ready to play everyday, and also the big bat of Cecil Clarke who probably fits best at 1B/DH.
Also, the veteran bats of Tom Rudge, Alfonso Trinidad, Kidane Ata are still quite formidable.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
Pitching. Starting rotation spots that are currently guaranteed? Only two: Steffan Gimsing and Gamal bin Badr. Also, losing de' Medici means Renato Lacerda is the closer, and someone else will have to step up in the pen.
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
Prieto could upgrade most teams catching situation, and Morgan is ready to take over the reins.
* Regardless of what the owner thinks, what's your 2055 outlook of these three: 1) Win Now!, 2) Neutral, 3) Rebuilding
Tough question. We're always "Win Now", but this really is more of a re-tooling year.

Yeah…when we were on vacation in Delaware during covid….there were billboards like every 1/4 mile with this chicks name and face on each one. It became a running joke on how far we could go without spotting one.

Re: Preview Helper - Team Preseason Survey
* Top 3 new player acquisitions you're most excited about?
1B Carlos Souza. Technically a switch-hitter, but a natural lefty.
RF Ulvi Basgil. Looks like a short-side platoon bat.
1B/2B William Drew. 36 y/o, but he murders left-handed pitching.
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
The Aaron Haney trade (2048) seemed to make sense at the time, but damn, that didn't work out. He's outlived all the young talent I brought in.
Which also brings to mind Carlton Day (2053).
Losses lately? None.
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
CF Matthew Ewing, who is out of option years.
* Top rookie who should debut or get called up this year?
Utility man Tim Bartlett will at least get another September call-up.
* What player are you most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
I'm partial to Sterling Kennedy, one of a trio of 19 y/o 1B prospects making their way through the system. Hoping he gets visited by the hit tool fairy.
* What's your most substantial staff change?
Promoted the remainder of the AA staff to AAA Mars. Hitting coach Miguel Flores may be in for another promotion soon.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
Defense.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
Upper-management (yuk-yuk). Also anything to do with scoring runs.
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
None, at present.
* Regardless of what the owner thinks, what's your 2055 outlook of these three: 1) Win Now!, 2) Neutral, 3) Rebuilding

* Top 3 new player acquisitions you're most excited about?
- Rafael Elias (C) - Technically not a full not acquisition, but it was a priority to bring him back despite refusing to negotiate prior to free agency.
- Jorge Díaz (P) - Won 17 games as a rookie in 2048, but injuries have derailed his career
- Reed Graham (OF) - Gold Glove caliber 4th outfielder in a very weak outfield system
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
N/A
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
Will Bennett (C) - Is he the future catcher of Chicago and will we carry 3 catchers to start the year with Bennett making the team

* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
Tsu-bahr Hru (INF)
* What's your most substantial staff change?
The entire minor league staff got replaced. We also hired former Chicago manager António Velasco as pitching coach.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
Pitching is our strength, specifically young starting pitching.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
Offense. We may have a .225 team average, but we will have very strong defense.

Albert Krant

Re: Preview Helper - Team Preseason Survey
* Top 3 new player acquisitions you're most excited about?
I only have one acquisition - Mal Fountain
* Top 3 player losses you're dwelling on?
Definitely Luis Mendoza, but I have a good feeling about Fountain as a replacement. I also will miss Reed Graham who was a defensive wizard in the OF and glued everyone together. He wanted too much to stay. Same with Jose Nunez, master utility infielder.
* Which player is on the bubble for making the team?
Darrel Burns. He is the #26 prospect in the league. He looks almost ready and could easily be called up if Tim Gibbs disappoints again, or there is an injury.
* Top rookie who should debut or get called up this year?
Callum Martin. He had one start in the playoffs last year. He will be the #4 starter.
* What player are most excited about in your farm system that WON'T get called up this season?
Darrel Burns, but if he doesn't get called up, then Ford Prefect. Ford is the #36 prospect in the league.
* What's your most substantial staff change?
No changes.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest strength?
The team should be relatively high ranking in most offensive categories. I expect the bullpen to do well again, but perhaps not as good since Castagna really had an amazing year that will be hard to replicate.
* As of now, what is your team's biggest weakness?
Starting pitching. I will be starting at least one and maybe two rookies, and my #5 starter is just not good. And I expect Greg Shaw to not have the same good season.
* Which player is at the top of your trading block?
Kwakou
