Johnson League

Las Vegas makes their return to the top of the Johnson League RPI since the 2050 BBA Season Final RPI. The Hustlers have 10 road wins that is tied with Montreal for the most road wins in the Johnson League. Atlantic City is 2nd with a 12-4 home record. Montreal is 3rd on the strength of their road record. In 10 home games the Blazers are 5-5. The Charlotte Cougars and Mexico City are tied. I give the Cougars the edge with their 10 home wins.

Charm City, Calgary, Jacksonville, Rocky Mountain and Phoenix round out the Top 10. The Jimmies, Hurricanes and Talons have good results with their SOS over .500. The Pioneer and the Oysters have strong Pythagorean Win %.

A slow starting New Orleans leads the bottom feeders at 11th with a 3-8 home record while 7-11 on the road. Boise has played well at home but have a dismal 3-11 road record to sit 12th. Edmonton has already played 19 home games going 10-9 but have only 3 wins on the road. The Pikemen have been bad at home but are worse on the road with just 2 wins, tied with San Antonio for the least road wins. Brooklyn is 16th but so far are just a few % points back of 15th.

The Sacramento Mad Popes find themselves atop the Frick League RPI to begin the season. The Mad Popes have a 9-4 record at home and a 11-5 road record. The upstart Omaha Cyclones have used their ballpark to their advantage going 8-2 to pair with their .693 Pythagorean Win % to remain close to Sacramento. Valencia remains a solid team going 13-5 at home and 8-4 on the road. Yellow Springs is under .500 but the have put up 9 road wins and have a .565 Pythagorean win%. This team is better than their record reflects. Portland has another strong team and are 13-6 at home.

Louisville, Twin Cities, Des Moines, Hawaii and Nashville round out the Top 10. The Sluggers are 10-5 at home and .500 on the road. The River Monsters have played just 11 home games but are 7-4. The Tropics have improved quickly and raised their Pythagorean about 100 points from last season. The Bluebirds have struggled out of the gate and will probably nearer the top than any of these other teams.

The San Fernando Bears are 11th with a 6-6 record at home while they have struggled on the road at 7-11. Madison and Long Beach each have 7 wins at home and 4 on the road. There is just a slim edge goes to the Wolves with their SOS and Pythagorean Win %. Seattle is playing .500 ball at home but have some serious road woes at 5-13. Vancouver has also struggled both at home and on the road. The Mounties are just 2-7 on the road. The Chicago Black Sox have sunk to the bottom as their rebuild is underway.

I'm still smarting about how my (now former) closer lost 4 of our first 10 games. When we miss the playoffs that will haunt me, should we keep showing the improvement I saw once he was demoted. But in general the bullpen has been a weakness and it might mean our pitching coach get 86ed sometime this year.

The Hustlers remain atop the Index on the strength of a 24-13 road record. Mexico City is a distant 2nd with Rockville, Atlantic City and Charlotte rounding out the Top 5. New Orleans and the Oysters are poised wo jump into the Top 5 if another team stumbles. The next grouping has Charm City, Phoenix, Montreal and Jacksonville. The Hurricanes sit just outside the Top 10. The Talons have played only 17 home games and have a losing record on the road but should be moving one way or the other once they play some more home games.

Calgary, Edmonton, Boise, San Antonio and Brooklyn round out the Index. The Spuds, Outlaws and Robins have troubles on the road although San Antonio struggles just as much at home.

Frick League

Sacramento is lapping the field through 60+ games winning 16 pf 24 games at home and 26 of 27 games on the road. Omaha remains the #2 team in the Frick with Portland moving from 5th to 3rd. Valencia falls one spot to 4th and Yellow Springs drops out of the Top 5 and falls to #8. A red-hot Long Beach squad jumps from 13th to 5th in the Index.

Louisville, Des Moines, the Nine, Nashville and Hawaii round out the Top 10. The Kernels are taking care of business at home with a 25-16 record. The real test for them will be an upcoming road heavy schedule. Yellow Springs has struggled on the road and will need some home cookin’ to make a move. The Tropics look to be slumping and may fall off the pace.

The next group is Twin Cities, San Fernando and Madison. The Wolves have played a heavy home schedule and their season will hinge on getting some wins on the road.

Seattle, Vancouver and Chicago round out the Index. Seattle is 9-8 at home and has 14 road wins a keeping them ahead of the Mounties and Black Sox. Both teams have struggled to win on the road.

The defending champ Mexico City Aztecs displace the Las Vegas Hustlers as the top team in the Johnson League. The Aztecs hold the edge with a 30-14 home record compared to the Hustlers 26-19. Atlantic City is a distant 3rd with Rocky Mountain and Rockville taking the 4th and 5th spots. The Pikemen are holding on but will need to hold serve at home to remain in the top 5.

Charm City, Jacksonville and Phoenix have climbed into the Top 10 but Charlotte has plummeted from the Top 5 to #8. New Orleans has stopped scoring runs and have fallen to the #10 spot.

Montreal has dropped out of the Top 10 to #11. The Blazers are 25-17 at home but are 11 games under .500 on the road at 22-33. Edmonton has creeped up to #12 followed by Calgary, Boise, San Antonio, and Brooklyn. The Robins have improved their home record and are beginning to score more runs.

The Sacramento Mad Popes remain atop the RPI but have come back to the pack. Omaha has closed the gap with the Popes and are a winning streak away from claiming the top spot. Des Moines has broken into the Top 5 at #3 followed closely by Portland at #4. Valencia drops one spot to round out the Top 5.

Nashville has moved up to #6 and needs to play better on the road to break into the Top 5. Louisville, Yellow Springs and Hawaii hold on to their spots in the Top 10 with Madison pulling into the 10 spot.

Twin Cities and San Fernando are #11 and #12 respectively with Long Beach dropping all the way to #13. The Surfers are above .500 at home but have struggled on the road. Seattle will have a home heavy schedule the rest of the season and can make some noise. Vancouver has been stuck in a brown truck but will be freed soon and will make a move up the RPI. Chicago is in rebuild mode and selling everything but the only thing that is cheap is the hot dogs.

Mexico City is still #1 after 135 games but the Rocky Mountain Oysters are creeping ever closer. The Oysters have gained .030 points to jump Vegas and Atlantic City to take the #2 position. Vegas falls to #3 followed by Charm City and the Aces to round out the Top 5.

Phoenix is making a late season surge as they climb to #6 followed by Charlotte, Rockville, Jacksonville, and Montreal. The Blazers displace the New Orleans as the Crawdads have been bitten by the injury bug.

New Orleans sits at #11 followed by Edmonton and a surging San Antonio squad. Boise remains at #14 while Calgary falls to #15 and is in danger of getting chased down by an improving Brooklyn.

Sacramento is still the #1 in the Frick, but the Omaha Cyclones are narrowing the gap. Des Moines is #3 followed by Valencia then a quickly improving Nashville team. Portland drops out of the Top 5 and is trying to hold on as Madison, Louisville and Twin Cities are charging up the list. Yellow Springs is holding on to the #10 spot.

San Fernando has passed a slumping Hawaii team for #11 while Long Beach is stuck in a rut and at #13. Vancouver is waking from their season long slumber as has jumped Seattle. Chicago is still bringing up the rear but is starting to gain some percentage points.
