Game Recap

Phoenix starter Roy Minty couldn't get out of the second inning and the Talons could never get into the game as the Outlaws cruised to an easy 12-3 victory at The Tap Room this evening in the opening match-up of a three-game intradivision series. The win improves San Antonio's record to 23-31, while Phoenix falls to 26-29.

Star right fielder, face of the Outlaws, and player of the game, Pedro Bustamante, was a one-man wrecking crew, going 4 for 5, including a home run and two doubles, driving in five runs. He has improved to a slash line of .303/.346/.550 so far on the year. Bustamante hasn't so far produced at the plate at levels the Outlaws have become accustomed to in recent years. They are going to need him executing at a high level if they are going to turn their season around.

First baseman Majid bin Husam, who is having a heck of a sophomore campaign for San Antonio, contributed three hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in three. The Outlaws handed bin Husam, an Israeli national and international free agent, a sizable $12.7M signing bonus back in 2044. It appears that they are going to get their money's worth in this player.

San Antonio starter Mark Thomas (5.2 IP, 6 K, 2 BB, 5 H, 2 HR, 2 ER) had a good start, and was credited with the win. Phoenix starter Roy Minty (1.2 IP, 1 K, 2 BB, 7 H, 7 ER) who could never put it together in this one, collected the loss.

More was expected of these two teams this season. Prognostications for Phoenix had them winning around 89-90 games on the season, mostly on the strength of their pitching staff, which has looked downright ordinary so far this year. Preseason predictions weren't as high on San Antonio, which had them between 81 and 83 wins, but this team has not (tonight's result aside) resembled a .500 team so far this year.
