Play of the game, broadcast transcript. Top of the seventh inning, Atlantic City leads 5-1. Fredo Torres, play-by-play announcer, with commentary by Bob Burke.

[start]

Fredo: And that's going to be it for Fields. A solid outing for him. Six and two-thirds innings pitched for Fields. One run allowed, unearned, and on the hook for the two runners on base. Brooklyn mounting a two out rally here in the top half of the seventh, with runners on the corners. Blanco is going to call on a right-hander to face Paul, and it's going to be Henry Fudge. Fudge in his fifth season for Atlantic City with a 2.79 ERA so far in '49. Has a starter's repertoire but the Gamblers like to use him out of the pen.

Bob: Fudge's got a plus slider and forkball. Also the more seldom seen curveball and changeup. With a fastball that tops out at around 100 miles and hour, he uses the forkball as his offspeed pitch. If you're sitting on the fastball and that forkball comes tumbling in at around 88, you're toast. It can be a challenge throwing that pitch for strikes, though.

Fredo: A shot there from earlier tonight of the setting sun shining down over the boardwalk here in Atlantic City. Paul hitting .312 coming into this game. One for two tonight with a double back in the third. He's scored Brooklyn's only run so far. First pitch is a fastball outside and off the plate for ball one.

Bob: García not going to run here with two outs, just not the stolen-base threat he used to be.

Fredo: Just one stolen base for García so far this year. Fudge looks in and gets the sign. Delivers, and that's a strike on the inner half.

Bob: There's the forkball. Paul wisely lays off of it.

Fredo: Fudge takes a deep breath. The one-one pitch is a ball low and away.

Bob: Came after him with the slider there and Paul's not chasing anything out of the zone. Fudge can afford to nibble here, with the number eight hitter, Moreno on deck, the important thing is to not give Paul a good pitch to hit.

Fredo: And here's the two-one pitch. It's a hard hit ball down the first base line! And bin Nasim will score easily. García will try for third. Romero gets over and cuts this one off before it gets to the wall. Paul is going to try and stretch this one for a double. Romero wheels and throws a strike to second, Allman applies the tag and Paul goes down. Inning over. Could have been worse, but Paul gets thrown out at second and the rally stalls.

Bob: Paul gets a little greedy there and the Robins pay for it.

[end]

Atlantic City would go on to win this game by the score of 5-3.
