(Mexico City) Rain Delays of 2047

Post by RonCo » Wed Sep 01, 2021 5:57 pm

It’s cliché to talk about Mexico City and rain outs and all that other stuff. I admit I kind of enjoy the fact that they are around. Adds to the flavor, you know? The Brewster is the best league in existence for a reason, and these kinds of things make life fun.

That said, a rain out can cause no end of issues, right?

Extra double headers and messed up rotations and … well … it can be a pain to navigate around these things. And there’s more, too.

This is a long way to say that I got my scripts out to make a few regular “new season” changes, and got a little interested in digging into the data from 2047. In particular, I realized that I capture rain delays and their lengths. (I generally can’t capture actual rain outs … something I need to think about. Perhaps I can. I dunno).

It will come as no shock, then that I can say Mexico City also leads the Brewster in rain delays—by a wide margin.

Here is the list:

Home TeamDelaysTotal TimeAvg. Time
Mexico City Aztecs1769340.8
Brooklyn Robins518336.6
Madison Wolves419047.5
Rockville Pikemen417744.3
Atlantic City Gamblers311739.0
Charm City Jimmies313344.3
Nashville Bluebirds312742.3
Charlotte Cougars28140.5
Chicago Black Sox27939.5
El Paso Chilis29849.0
Louisville Sluggers212462.0
Seattle Storm29045.0
Calgary Pioneers12929.0
Edmonton Jackrabbits16060.0
Omaha Cyclones14242.0
Twin Cities River Monsters13131.0
Pretty cool, eh?

Mexico City fans spent about eleven and a half hours waiting for baseball to start again. Second was Brooklyn with five events. Madison had only four delays, but they added up to more waiting time than Brooklyn’s. You can scan the list yourself, but I found it fun to note that Louisville led the league in average delay time—two events at over an hour a piece. I suppose that means nature keeps trying to wash that place clean, but just can’t seem to get the job done.

And what’s with El Paso?

Two rain delays? I have no real idea if El Paso gets much rain, but my image of the place is that it’s desertlike. Though maybe it’s a monsoon thing like we get here in Arizona. Dunno. Calling JWalk, calling Jwalk!

Then there’s poetic justice in the idea that a team named the River Monsters had only one paltry delay, and that for merely half a Loserville delay.

Anyway, I thought that was kind of fun, so … have at it. For what it’s worth.

Just think of all those extra beers and hot dogs that the Aztecs sold in those rain delays!

In El Paso we get about 8.8 inches of rain per year. We do get the monsoon season that begins in July and runs through early September. This year we have been getting a ton of rain as the monsoon has dumped 10.63 inches of rain on us. It is raining now!

Louisville doesn't get them too often, but when they do you’re a waiting

Clearly this game has never experienced Monsoon June in Calgary also known as Junary.
