That said, a rain out can cause no end of issues, right?
Extra double headers and messed up rotations and … well … it can be a pain to navigate around these things. And there’s more, too.
This is a long way to say that I got my scripts out to make a few regular “new season” changes, and got a little interested in digging into the data from 2047. In particular, I realized that I capture rain delays and their lengths. (I generally can’t capture actual rain outs … something I need to think about. Perhaps I can. I dunno).
It will come as no shock, then that I can say Mexico City also leads the Brewster in rain delays—by a wide margin.
Here is the list:
Home Team | Delays | Total Time | Avg. Time |
---|---|---|---|
Mexico City Aztecs | 17 | 693 | 40.8 |
Brooklyn Robins | 5 | 183 | 36.6 |
Madison Wolves | 4 | 190 | 47.5 |
Rockville Pikemen | 4 | 177 | 44.3 |
Atlantic City Gamblers | 3 | 117 | 39.0 |
Charm City Jimmies | 3 | 133 | 44.3 |
Nashville Bluebirds | 3 | 127 | 42.3 |
Charlotte Cougars | 2 | 81 | 40.5 |
Chicago Black Sox | 2 | 79 | 39.5 |
El Paso Chilis | 2 | 98 | 49.0 |
Louisville Sluggers | 2 | 124 | 62.0 |
Seattle Storm | 2 | 90 | 45.0 |
Calgary Pioneers | 1 | 29 | 29.0 |
Edmonton Jackrabbits | 1 | 60 | 60.0 |
Omaha Cyclones | 1 | 42 | 42.0 |
Twin Cities River Monsters | 1 | 31 | 31.0 |
Mexico City fans spent about eleven and a half hours waiting for baseball to start again. Second was Brooklyn with five events. Madison had only four delays, but they added up to more waiting time than Brooklyn’s. You can scan the list yourself, but I found it fun to note that Louisville led the league in average delay time—two events at over an hour a piece. I suppose that means nature keeps trying to wash that place clean, but just can’t seem to get the job done.
And what’s with El Paso?
Two rain delays? I have no real idea if El Paso gets much rain, but my image of the place is that it’s desertlike. Though maybe it’s a monsoon thing like we get here in Arizona. Dunno. Calling JWalk, calling Jwalk!
Then there’s poetic justice in the idea that a team named the River Monsters had only one paltry delay, and that for merely half a Loserville delay.
Anyway, I thought that was kind of fun, so … have at it. For what it’s worth.
