Minty-gate Twist: New Info Implicates Calgary

Post by tylertoo » Sun Aug 29, 2021 10:23 am

League Headquarters, March 7, 2048 -- The growing controversy over what is now known as "Minty-gate" took an unusual twist today, with sources indicating that it was actually a group of Calgary fans who tripped former YS9 and new Talon SP Roy Minty during an off-season public appearance.

Initial reports of the incident linked the matter to a group of fans of the Edmonton Jackrabbits known as Hippity Hop Hop. Leaked was a computer-enhanced surveillance photo showing a man with a Jackrabbits cap tripping Minty. "A picture, no matter how grainy, is worth a thousand words," said one source at the time. League officials quickly launched a probe and promised discipline.

That investigation however has turned up startling new information: it was the a fan club of the Calgary Pioneers who staged the Minty trip, but dressed up as Edmonton fans in order to frame their Frontier Division rivals. "Apparently," said our source, "their hope was to both injure Minty, thus hurting the chances of the Talons who had just acquired the hurler, but also to hurt the Jackrabbits by destroying their longstanding image as wholesome baseball fans."

A forensic analysis of the original surveillance photo clearly shows the duplicity of the Calgary fans, who go by the name "Beer, Steer and Pioneers" or BSAP for short. Here's the original:

By further digitizing the photo using advanced algorithms, the true image is revealed:

"There's no doubt that's a Pioneers logo, and there's also no doubt that they're trying to hide the logo while making the Edmonton logo obvious. We won't be fooled by this amateurish attempt at deception," said one investigator, requesting anonymity since the probe is still underway.

The motive is obvious: Pioneer fans were particularly upset because Calgary had been in the running for a wildcard berth late in the season, only to see Edmonton get hot in September and claim the JL's fourth and final wildcard opening.

League officials, at least on the record, declined to comment.
