In this weeks go around since its trade season and its been the topic of a lot of the recent BBA Today podcasts with @RonCo and @Ted, I'd thought I'd brush off the old Trades in the BBA Viz.
Gone is the old one, updated with a Uber Cool Sankey Diagram!! Cuz all the cool kids are doing Sankey's now. (editors note: No they aren't)
Looking at the Viz, in the column on the LEFT you have listed teams that have Initiated Trades. The column on the RIGHT you have teams that were the recipients of said trade. The lines in the middle represent direction of trade and the amount of times those two clubs exchanged players.
Its set to the default view (all trades between all teams).
You can select a team (or multiple) teams from each column to clean up the data in the middle. (i.e. choose your team and see who they've traded with most).
For example:
Las Vegas leads the BBA in initialing trades, with 139 or 9.53% of all trades since 2010 have been started by the Hustlers. If you choose Las Vegas from the Trade Initiator Team(s) filter - it filters down the center section allowing you to see all 139 of Vegas's trades. The thickness of the lines indicates quantity. The bigger the line, the more action between the two teams. Quickly you can see how Brooklyn has historically been Vegas team of choice to deal with (having initiating 11 trades between the two clubs). However if you flip-flop it, and choose Brooklyn as the initiator (they only have 63 trades), the Robins haven't favored initiating trades WITH Vegas, only doing 2 (making up only 3.36%) of trades. They've found a prettier lady in Louisville. (10x).
You can select teams from an entire divisions on either side and see how trading between divisions has gone. Seems like the Heartland really likes Long Beach, and Twin Cities has never initialed a trade with Vancouver. (Come on Ted get on that).
I would not have guessed who the team that has been on the end of the most trades in the BBA. I'm not gonna tell you, but see if you can find out.
I will be looking to put some additional data in the Viz (including player Names, trade dates, positions), but I will save that for another update.
Enjoy
~Mike

I'm guessing it is just who posted the trades, but well that is not a great metric if I'm honest...

The Brooklyn Robins traded 19-year-old minor league starting pitcher Palmer Eveland to the Louisville Sluggers, getting 31-year-old reliever Francisco Barrera in return.
The Edmonton Jackrabbits traded 27-year-old center fielder Rocky Allen, 34-year-old reliever Luis Ortega and 20-year-old minor league starting pitcher Kinzo Iwamoto to the Sacramento Mad Popes, getting 28-year-old center fielder Po-sin Shi and 36-year-old reliever Freddy Delgado in return.
Ive got no other frame of reference other than how its recorded in game.
Brooklyn and Edmonton get credit for initiating those trades.
