Your Random BBA Graph of the week - 2044.13

Post by CTBrewCrew » Wed Oct 21, 2020 9:33 pm

In this weeks installment, I take my muse from Ted/Ron's/Joe/Randy/Etc. BBA podcast when they talked about Milestones in the Brewster. So I decided to pull the data down from S+ and visualize it. Starting in 1995, we average about 25 "milestones" reached in a season. With a highwater mark of 42, and a low of 13. (I'm not gonna tell you the years, go have some fun).

The Viz is broken down into multiple parts with an overall downward flow.
  • The top is an area chart tracking Milestones reached per season over the years.
  • The next section has the BAN of Big Ass Numbers, that list the # of each type of millstone reached. You can hover of that to see who was the youngest player and oldest player to reach each milestone.
  • Below that are circles, where each circle / color represent an individual player and when they hit a milestone. The milestones are color coded to what is is showing under each BAN category above. If you click on a dot/player, if that player has multiple milestones, you will see them highlighted.
  • The final chart is a bar graph that depicts the # of players milestones for that category, and broken down by draft year. Since S+ (or in game) doesn't seem to have any draft years for players before the 1995 season, I lumped them all into a draft class of 1994! What a banner season. I might go back and put on a "Chapman" type of filter for this to remove toggle the "1994" draft class out of the bar-charts to allow for a more even scale.
(just something I noticed with Ted was that it seems at least for me (in a more readable format in Edge-Chromium) browser vs Chrome. Its more full-screen (for us old' folks) this is easier on the eye. ;)

Any who, enjoy!

this is great stuff, im going through and doing a spinoff using this data for some other purposes, and I noticed something. For George Peralta (1000 RBI/Runs, 2000 Hits), you have his dates as being in the 2009-2011 time frame but according to his HTML page he only played from 1987-1999 (and also fell short of 2000 Hits and 1000 runs). Unless there is another George Peralta who does not have an HTML page, something is wonky there...

EDIT: similar situation for Manuel Guerra. Listed under 1000 hits, 300 HR, 1000 Runs from the 2041-2043 range, but is in fact a pitcher....

Let me check - I may have cut/paste the wrong playerID from S+

All set, and I added a "1994 Draft Filter" for the bar charts, and added Team name into the Milestones pop-up.

Thanks again for the double-checking!

hate to be that guy again, but there are a slew of guys that are on the 2500 K list, but not on the 2000 K list (and they got there post 1995). It looks like the pitching lists for some reason start post 2000 (and even then does not catch everyone).

No worries - lemme take a look again. It was a cut/paste from the milestone html - do you have a player name in particular ? That would help me 😄

I think this proves that it's really easy to hit homers in the BBA, and that 500 isn't as special as it is in real life. There are 27 player in MLB history who have hit 500 home runs over the 100 + year history of major league baseball.

There are 23 players in the BBA who have hit 500 homers in the last 45 or so BBA seasons.

There are 55 people who have 400 homers in MLB history. In the last 45 or so seasons, more than 70 BBA players have reached that mark.

So Basically it has taken us half as long to get to the same number of players for the homer milestones as MLB.

500 BBA homers is like 400 MLB homers.

Actually is not a filter - both @usnspecialist and I looked - and Stats+ has no data listed in its report for the missing player data of 2000k strikeouts. It’s in game - and on their player pages - but not on the report I pulled the data from. We are looking to find the missing data - short of me looking at every players indv page. Where it does show up....stay tuned !

it appears as though the game just didnt give a crap about hitting 2000 strikeouts before 2002 (at least that is my theory).
