Your Random BBA Graph of the week - 2044.7

Post by CTBrewCrew » Sat Sep 26, 2020 4:51 pm

Following along on @RonCo & @Ted BBA today podcast, and to go along with Ron's earlier post yesterday about drafting WAR. I put this Viz together that shows you the total amount of WAR generated by player league age 25 or under. I wanted to see who came out of the gate fast.

You can find it here, along with all your other things Viz.

The top WAR player for the BBA for league age 25 and under is CF Armando Santos. He is tops with 54.63. It helped that he entered the BBA at the ripe old age of 18yo. It gave him 8 seasons to rack up that total, yes I know the Viz will show 9 seasons (but it counted the split season he had when he was 21 (OMA->SEA) trade as two.

Of the top 10 overall WAR by league age 25 or less, 6 of them are now HOFers. Breaking down into positions it goes:

CF (1), SS (2), 3B (2), 2B (1), 1B (2) and RF (2)

You can also select any player you want from the Brewster-verse (sorry no P in this one) and see what their WAR totals are for their years under 25. I left it on Santos to start and you can see his WAR increases from .30 in 1996 up to 9.91 by 2003!

In the bottom part of the Viz I have broken it down by the top 10 WAR by each position. The difference between the leader and second place is very close at almost every position besides CF - where #2 was 17.65 WAR difference between Santos and #2 Resurrection Santos. I guess if you want a great young CF in the BBA, draft a Santos!

By default the Viz is focused on all teams, but you can change that filter and just select a specific team to look at their overall top 10 and overall top 10 by positions.

I wanted to get something out, in time I will add a breakdown of <=25 WAR by team, and I will break out the top 100 <=25 WAR players and see what franchise has the most in the top 100.

Stay Tuned for future updates. I hope this sparks some conversations.

Enjoy

~Mike

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
