Welcome to week 14 of Makeover Mondays. The mystery team Makeover Monday, the "People's Choice" for a re-deu. Welcome to the club Yellow Springs Nine.
Originally founded in 1973 as the original Phoenix Tallons, but then new GM Tim Meseck moved to Yellow Springs and rebranded them the "Nine" in 2014. In the franchises history they have had 13 GMs, of which our beloved "RonCo" has been at the helm for the last 18 seasons. Before Ron took over as GM, the club made the playoffs nine times, in Ron's 18 seasons at the helm Yellow Springs has made the playoffs 15 out of his 18 seasons. Pretty darn good. But you know what, the people have spoke, and they want to see a YS9 rebrand. Perhaps the new look will be just what Ron needs to get this club to the promised land.
Let’s take a look at the old one.
Another logo that I like a lot. Simple, classy, a old style ballplayer intertwined with a 9, that forever reminds me of this...
For those of you playing along at home, I'll Explain the rules again...
The Makeover had to meet these 3 criteria.
- First, incorporate something into the new logo that has a baseball theme.
- Second, use the teams existing color / uniform palette w/in the new look when at all possible.
- Third, try to maintain a connection to the team’s history.
Any-who, with-out further ado… your 2043 Makeover Monday Yellow Springs Nine
I wanted to keep that old-time baseball feel to this logo, but I also wanted to do something more with the name. I changed the team font, and created a intertwined YS9 (sorta like Cardinals in that fake baseball league). The player has been changed to be less "cartoony", and placed over a shield with the teams inaugural season in Yellow Springs. I stayed with the current colors of Yellow, Red, Black and Grey.
Now on to their Hats & Uniforms
Hats: -- They had two hats in-game, (home and away). Bi-color hat (red bill & sides, and black brim for home) and black bill & sides, and a red brim for away). Both hats have the current 9 player logo on the bill. The only difference is the color of the 9 for better contrast.
Home:
Away:
New:
New: -- Stayed with the teams primary color scheme, and cut it down to one hat for both. Its still a bi-colored hat.
Using the same color scheme as the existing home hat. It just has the updated logo on the bill.
Home Uni: -- The team had two jerseys in-game (home and away). The home jersey was a off-white color with red shoulders / sleeves and a black undershirt and collar. It has the teams YS on one left side of the chest, with the team logo on the right. The away jersey is laid out the same as the home, with the same logos across the chest and patches on sleeves. It is a solid red, with a black undershirt and collar.
Current Home:
Current Away:
New: -- Updated the new home jersey to be a off-white in color with thin red piping on chest and sleeves. The team will wear black undershirt and collar. I removed the logo from both chest sides, and updated it with the new YS9 interlocking logo to the right chest only. On the left sleeve is the teams updated brand.
New: -- The new away jersey is red short sleeve, thin black piping down the chest. With black and yellow strips on the sleeves, along with black undershirt and collar. Since this name is so long, and looks cramped if spelled out on chest when I was laying out, I went with YS9 across the chest. The teams new logo is on the sleeve, along with the JL patch.
Hats will be available soon in the BBA Shop
Enjoy!
