Would you consider performance on LD to be more luck or talent based? If you have any idea at all, that is.

I don't know.

My pure guess is that LD defense is mostly about range, but that whatever effect is there is covered by a very large layer of random noise. since I can't really trace this to individual players (hence their ratings) with the data sets I have, I can't go deeper than what's here.

I do wish that the game would allow online GMs to download all the csv files from the game that don't have anything to do with raw ratings. There are files that could give us a lot of value in trying to answer that question.

So, shockingly, I know, but a great defense, middle of the road pitching, and leading the league in SBs gets you absolutely nowhere in the BBA other than looking forward to drafting #1 again next season.

At 69% success rate, you've got to steal a LOT of bases to make a serious impact of them.

Philosophical Question of the Day: Pacific Defense -- good because the hitters are so weak?

Yeah, well, even if it were a 90% success rate, you still have to hit the ball to score. Pretty difficult to steal home all the time.

I'm in the same boat, sadly -- great defense, top pitching in the league, leading the world in SBs (74% success rate). That gets a guy a .500 record.

At 74% you've probably added half a win or so to your totals so far.

Charlotte has probably added a tenth of a win or so at 69%.

The league is averaging a bit over 66%, success, I think.

Well, I noticed much of the caught stealing totals were coming from guys who I do not want to be running, so I went and switched up my individual games strategies a bit. Maybe by the end of the year I can get to a % which will denote an addition of one or two wins.

If I can manage to get some guys hitting and actually get on base a little more often it wouldnt be as bad. A 69% success rate when you only have an OBP of .260 is a lot different than a 69% rate when your OBP is closer to .325 or so.....

I was going to be disappointed if my defense wasn't in the top 10 this season. Infield is just mediocre, but my OF is probably the best defensive unit I've ever fielded.

Beats the -43 that JAX was toting around last season I guess.
