2042 Sees Record Number of BBA Player Options

Post by RonCo » Sat May 23, 2020 12:46 pm

The end of the 2042 season is drawing near, and it's going to see a record 32 players holding options on their future. The earlier record (2040) was 29 players, while 2039 ended with 24 players holding such bargaining chips. Some think this surge is partially due to agents learning to be more strident in their demands, others suggest it has to do with GMs being more willing to offer options in hopes of creating supplemental draft picks. Either way, it leads to a great kick-off to hot stove league conversations among fans whose teams might not have fared too well in the post season.

Of particular note in this year's class is the prevalence of name pitchers, a batch that includes players like Nebraska winners Arthur Dempster, Kevin Morales, Feliciano Rafael, Ken Walters, and Jubal Troop.

As always, the league office will be following these decisions closely.

Here is the full list of players, sorted by team and including the contract values of each over the life of their deals (numbers in millions, numbers following team options are buy-out values).
