September 29
Mexico City 14 - Las Vegas 4
When it rains, it pours (pun intended) as the Aztecs pour it on the Hustlers. Mexico City scored 7 times in the 4th inning, led by Fernando Moreno's 3 run blast off of Ken Bates. Bates allowed 7 runs on 8 hits in 3.2 innings. Moreno added a 2 run homer in the 8th inning right after Vegas had scored 3 runs in the top half to make it a 12-4 game and try and avoid FUBAR territory. Moreno's second homer of the day came off of Antonio Gonzalez who allowed just the 2 runs but it was all that was needed. Moreno ended the game with 3 hits and 5 runs batted in.
September 30
San Antonio 12 - Calgary 1
Pedro Bustamante hit his 14th homerun of the season in the 6th inning. It was a 3 run shot off of Mike Bragg who had little to brag about having allowed 5 runs on 4 hits without recording an out. Bustamante's homer came after Alfredo Rosas had hit his 16th bomb earlier in the frame off of Jefferson Pierce. Rosas' blast was a solo shot that was part of a 6-run inning. Pierce got the loss after allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and a walk in 5.1 innings pitched. Bustamante and Rosas each ended the game with 3 RBI.
October 1
California 10 - Seattle 0
What a way to end the season if you're a Crusaders fan! California sends a message to the rest of the Frick League (yeah I mean you Heartland division) that the Crusaders mean business entering the post-season. California pounded out 16 hits in the game, led by 3 each from Luis Gonzalez and Eddie Undergilder. Gonzalez added his 28th homerun of the season, a 2-run shot in the 8th inning Zoraide Anto to make this a FUBAR win for California. He added a team high 4 RBI as well!
So there you have it. Yellow Springs ends the season with the league's best FUBAR record at 8-0.
Long Beach claims the worst at 0-11.
Two teams (Charlotte and Long Beach) failed to claim a single FUBAR win.
Three teams (Yellow Springs, San Antonio, and Nasvhille) failed to lose a single FUBAR game.
I'll piece together another feature and chart later to illustrate whether there was any correlation to a team's pythag record based on these contests. My guess is there wasn't. But interesting to see anyway.
