Re: 2042 BBA Defensive Plays Above Average
Yeah...I save off all the game logs and run a script through them that gives me the result of every plate appearance. I wrote a description of this particular measurement back in the day. I should probably find it and link to it again. Will do when I get a chance.
It gives you a fighting chance to see how your defense is performing on the whole, and whatever you think are the relative differences.

Re: 2042 BBA Defensive Plays Above Average
Honestly, this data might be the single reason why Brooklyn is doing well this season. I started the year with defensive wizard António Cordero as my RF. We went 14-13 in April(about what I expected) and were a top this defensive list. I then tried(and failed) to add more offense, benching Cordero in favor of a below average fielder and went 10-17 in May. I looked at this data and saw our defense was falling hard. So I put Cordero back in the lineup and we went 20-7 in June and are trending up on this list.
Granted, I'm not suggesting the entire 10 game swing was because of the one or two plays Cordero makes a game over his replacement. Surely there are other things going on. But for a team with sub par pitching, you can see the difference a good outfield makes.

I feel like Edmonton is benefiting from this same thing in the infield right now.ae37jr wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 9:57 amHonestly, this data might be the single reason why Brooklyn is doing well this season. 14 more plays in my infield above average from 6/29-8/3. Pretty good.

Re: 2042 BBA Defensive Plays Above Average
Still surprised by my OF. I have the top ranked LF and CF based on ZR in the Frick and still in the negative in plays above average. Just goes to show you can't hide one bad fielder I suppose. My RFs combine for a -10 ZR though. With my main one coming in at a -4.0 ZR.

Re: 2042 BBA Defensive Plays Above Average
Say what you will about Jim Lorenzen (and I’ve said a lot) the Sox have added 10 plays above average in the outfield between June 29 and Aug 3, when he came back into the lineup.
