F.U.B.A.Rs of the Sim - Sim 1

Post by 7teen » Mon Mar 30, 2020 8:57 am

I used to run this feature a while back and with a lot of extra time on my hands this season, I figured I'd bring it back. I've changed the name from time to time and have done so again. This will just be a feature highlighting all the times in a sim a team got FUBAR'd, or beat by at least 10 runs. These games skew the ol' pythag record a little.

So without futher ado, here are the F.U.B.A.R games of sim 1.....

April 1
Brooklyn 13 - Phoenix 1
Felipe Vega provided a bulk of the work load for the Robins as he went 3-5 with 5 RBI and a pair of homeruns, including a 3-run shot off of James Braddock. Braddock was roughed up, allowing 4 runs in an inning and a third, but not as bad as Maxence Mace who surrendered 7 runs on 8 hits and 5 walks in 2.2 innings pitched. Jose Garcia reached base 6 times for the Robins, going 2-2 with 4 walks!

Calgary 15 - Rockville 5
Who had Arthur Dempster getting roughed up on opening day in their office pool? Dempster allowed 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks over 5 innings pitched for the loss. Romano and Dalter didn't help ease the pain by allowing 8 runs in 3 innings of relief on 9 hits. Liann-wei Mao went 2-4 with a pair of homeruns, 1 off of Dempster and the second one of Dalter which was a grand slam. Mao had 6 RBI. Medina also homered off Dalter one batter later, adding to his 4 RBI day.

Louisville 19 - Portland 5
Would you believe Louisville was actually out-hit this game, 16 to 15? Portland used 4 pitchers in the game who allowed 5, 4, 5, and 5 runs respectively, so it was a team effort. Ronnie Hubbard led the charge for the Sluggers, going 3-5 with 5 RBI which included a grand slam in the first inning off of Kum. The Sluggers hit 6 more, yes 6 MORE homeruns in the game, including 2 off the bat of Donald Miller as several Sluggers fans left the game with a souvenir on opening day, not to mention the fond memories of an opening day beat down!

April 2
Yellow Springs 16 - San Fernando 2
Starter Al Barton was pulled after 13 pitches for the Bears and it just went down hill from there. Tornatore allowed 4 runs spurred into early relief but the big problem was Rincon who allowed 8 runs on 7 hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Rex Foster went 2-4 with a homerun and a game high RBI. Thum and Mendoza combined to go 6-10 atop the Nine lineup, scoring 5 runs and driving in 6 RBI.

Des Moines 12 - Long Beach 2
It was all hands on deck for the Surfers who used 9 different pitchers to try and solve the Kernels offense. Most of the damage was done agaisnt starter Cris Rios, who allowed 7 runs on 6 hits and a pair of walks over 2.1 innings pitched for the loss. Michael Durham provided the big blow with a 3 run homer in the 2nd inning. It was the second homerun of the inning of Rios as Juan Santana added one as well. Eight different Kernels had a hit in this one!

April 4
Yellow Springs 12 - Louisville 2
The Nine hit 4 homeruns including a pair off the bat of Mark Haynes who finished the day 2-5 with 5 RBI. One of those blasts was a 3 run shot off Ken Bates in the 3rd. Bates allowed 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, lasting just 3.2 innings on the day. Mercati added fuel to the fire by allowing 3 long balls in 1.2 innings, surrendering 5 runs on 7 hits.

April 5
Montreal 14 - Jacksonville 1
Three different Jacksonville pitchers allowed at least 4 runs in this one, but the worst of it was taken by Jonathon Frank who allowed all 5 of his runs in just an inning of work. He gave up a walk and 4 hits, the worst of it came off the bat of Kevin MacKeith who hit a 3 run shot for his only hit of the evening to go with a pair of walks. Lineu Aldo had the best night, going 4-5 with 3 runs and 4 RBI.

I might be able to win this division. My offense is going to put up a lot of runs. I just need the rare pitching performance like we got from Bobby Lynch on opening day.

Wichita almost got on there, leading 10-0 against Phoenix we were cruelly denied by a late run to rob us
