With the league entering its 70th season, the BBA is celebrating heavily and Season Tickets are beginning to fly off the shelf. That’s what a recent BBA commissioner’s office report says, anyway. The league as a whole has already sold 352,763 tickets to its rabid fan base, with Yellow Springs leading the charge at nearly 15,800.
“It’s going to be a great season,” said Smedly Montague, a rep from the BBA central finance office as he used a roll of cash to light his cigar. “All that extra cash has to go somewhere, and we got just the places.”
Calgary fans registered in at #2 on the list with 14,600 tickets sold, Long Beach fans continue to not really care about winning while shelling out their cash. The Surfers are #3 at 14,300 tickets sold. California is 4th (13,900), and then comes … perhaps oddly … Omaha. Or, well, perhaps not so oddly. The Hawks are coming off a horrible season on the field, but slashed their ticket prices to $13. As a result, they’ve sold out28% of their stadium and fans are actually kind of buzzing. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that the team is throwing cash at players, too.
The Nine also lead the league in raw revenue generated in season tickets, though it’s a close race between the Ohio club and the derelicts in Louisville, with both sitting north of $21.75M generated after selling out about a quarter of their seats. Las Vegas, Rockville, and Long Beach round out the top five.
After their leadership change, Chicago leads the league as a ratio of their stadium’s capacity, having sold 31% of their space already. Rockville is close behind ate 29%,with Edmonton, and Omaha at 28%.
“We like looking at Season Ticket sales because they give us a great sense of how our fans are viewing us,” said Yellow Springs GM Ron Collins. “We were able to sell thirty thousand tickets last year, and we look like we’re pretty close to that pace again. So that’s good.”
Across the league, the BBA has already generated more than $450M in revenue, and there’s still a month and a half until Spring Training begins.
