2041 Injury Log Compiled

Post by RonCo » Tue Mar 17, 2020 3:16 pm

A conversation on Slack got me to remembering that I hadn’t run the injury script at the end of the year, so that’s what I set out to do. The script I wrote basically just parses the game’s injury html and drops the relevant data into a csv file. Looking at it, you’ll see every player with injury type, duration, and whether it’s day to day or out.

Feel free to slice and dice all you want.

Below, however is a top-level table of all our BBA level injuries split by team and position.

Team1B2B3BCCFCLLFRFRPSPSSTotal
Atlantic City Gamblers11327
Boise Spuds156
Brooklyn Robins224
Calgary Pioneers1214
California Crusaders213
Charlotte Cougars12115
Charm City Jimmies11114
Chicago Black Sox111115
Des Moines Kernels1135
Edmonton Jackrabbits113218
Hawaii Tropics11417
Jacksonville Hurricanes111222211
Las Vegas Hustlers1121218
Long Beach Surfers22
Louisville Sluggers121127
Madison Wolves21227
Mexico City Aztecs1225
Montreal Blazers11114
Nashville Bluebirds1132310
New Orleans Crawdads174214
Omaha Hawks22
Phoenix Talons112
Portland Lumberjacks11125
Rockville Pikemen1111127
San Antonio Outlaws347
San Fernando Bears12115
Seattle Storm11428
Twin Cities River Monsters22211412
Valencia Stars21115
Vancouver Mounties628
Wichita Aviators213410
Yellow Springs Nine21216
Grand Total12871017398634818203
Here, for example, you can see the slaughterhouse that was New Orleans, losing four SP to lost-time injuries, and seven RP. Twin Cities lost four SP, too. As did Wichita.

If you want to go counter case, look at Omaha, who sucked worse than you’d have expected, but can’t even blame injuries. Phoenix, too, was relatively injury free. In my own YS9 case, we were fairly healthy, but the two CF injuries were both to Luis Costello, and those hurt us against LHP—something EDM exploited better than Louisville did in the post season.

All total, there were 203 lost-time injuries across the league. 128 were incurred by pitchers. After the Crawdads, you’ve got Twin Cities, Wichita, Jacksonville, and Nashville all in double digits. Of course, not all lost-time injuries are of the same weight, but this table doesn’t break it out to that level.

Anyway…feel free to fiddle with the file and do your own thing.

It's too bad you can't log the injury duration too... lol.

My four starters went out with a combined total of ~47-50 months between them.

The duration is actually in the csv file. I just wasn't cutting that data here.

That's an interesting report, too. It truncates injury time to be focused on just this year, though, so it downplays the big pitcher injuries Scott is focused on.

Cool! Thank god they're all rookies... lol. . The Salary impact is almost nothing.

But the days remaining don't make sense...

Mendoza - 9 months - 270 days
Morita - 3 Months - 90 Days
Thorpe - 4 months - 120 days
Perez - 4 months - 120 Days

How so?

In-game, Mendoza is showing 9-10 month recovery time. StatsPlus is saying 285 which is smack dab in between 9 and 10 months. In-game, Morita, 3 months; StatsPlus, 87 days, which is just under three months. The other two check out as well.

I think that report lists the days the player has spent on the IL this year, not how long they have left.

In that situation, Jose Perez (out 7 months, or 280+days) was hurt on 9 September, hence is credited in that report with 22 days lost in 2041 ... I think, anyway.

I had the most injuries and a team with no good players and still made the playoffs? Wow.

A while back one may remember that the Talons had a bad injury problem, which claimed, among MANY others, Lumpy LaLoosh. Then in mid 2038 I fired Ashton Bryant and hired Brandon Carney.

Though both have good reputations as Team Trainers, the turnaround for the Talons, at least in terms of lost time injuries, has been dramatic. Though likely coincidental, maybe sometimes a change of scenery works for team doctors as well.
