I'm willing to bet it was someone that played in that decade of the 2000s. Someone that had high WAR numbers but never topped some of the big studs of the time.

Douglas Newhouse maybe? Not sure he has the career WAR though to be very high up on the all-time list.

You are right on the time frame, but wrong on the person. Newhouse actually led the BBA in 2001 (although that was his only finish higher than 5th).
