Here's Twin Cities' chart by zone...it does look like the middle of the infield is the "problem" if you assume sample size of two months is relevant.

Code: Select all

PLAYS	3L	3	34	4	4M	6M	6	56	5	5L
SHAL	0.00	-1.03	-1.08	-6.77	0.25	-0.04	-0.05	0.04	0.70	0.00
MID	0.72	1.11	1.18	-0.93	-3.52	-0.37	-2.72	1.99	1.37	-4.27
DEEP	0.00	-0.40	-1.61	-0.56	-2.11	0.13	0.68	-2.49	-1.21	0.00
It looks as if Wareham is having a bit of a down season defensively. He's still 8/8/9/11, which is perfectly fine with a bat like his IMO. Man has lumped offensively and having a terrible season, so the more offensive Joey Newhouse has stepped in and he is hurting the defense some. It's always a struggle trying to balance offense and defense in this game.
Yeah... with Man not playing, the defense is a mess and now that Wareham is out, it's going to get worse. I'm afraid TWC is in for some rough years ahead, the door is closing.

Boise can get to everything that doesn't go over the fence! Unfortunately, a lot of our opponents hits end up in the stands...

My infield defense is terrible because I'm cross training in attempt to make players more valuable. I have 2 centerfielders playing 2b and SS, and my first and third baseman would be flip flopped if I was playing for real.

New Orleans with a -57 on the infield is kinda nuts.

The worst performances overall for a season to date have been:

2035 - Valencia (-63.3 Plays Above Average)
2037 - Wichita (-119.6 Playes Above Average)

I missed taking 2036 game logs before they got written over. :)

On the infield it was:

2035 - Valencia (-49.1)
2037 - Wichita (-99.7)

So New Orleans is certainly not good.

Same data, by division...most interesting split? Look at Vegas in the cutthroat Sun Belt:

Ramirez and Gonzlaes were always going to be rugged at 2b, but you'd have thought Ruiz would have been better at shortstop.

This really illustrates the importance of defense. Almost all of the top defensive teams are leading the division and almost all the worst defenders are in the basement.

Yeah. And I have no kids to bring up. I was hoping Paul warren would help.

Given the shoot out going on, note the 137 play disparity between MEX and LV. Bulk of it in the outfield...

That's some defense.

Started playing Daniel more at 2B and with Ford out my of defense is far worse so it makes sense to see a drop-off.

It's the only thing keeping Mexico City's defensive output ahead of mine I think.

Otherwise I might be leading the league in pitching.

Aaron's comment got me wondering about Bill James' old comment that a lot of what we think of as pitching is really defense.
