THE END OF SEASON MEXICO CITY PILE UP UNDER WAY
Image
If you're of fan of double headers and live in Mexico City, you're in luck. Due the owner's refusal to put a dome on the rainiest city in the BBA (outside of maybe Seattle), the Aztecs continue to lead the league in ruining pitching rotations and playing extra games.

Through week 2 of September, the Aztecs already played three double headers, though amazingly, one of those was due to the normally dry weather in San Antonio...

Looking forward to the final two weeks of the season, there's already 3 scheduled double headers, including an incredible back to back double header against Wichita in the final week. This week includes a rescheduled Montreal game from a previous rain out that might have provided some relief to the Mexico City pitching staff with a well needed day off. As it stands, the Aztecs will be playing 9 games in 7 days for their final home stand from the 20th to the 26th before heading away to Boise for their final series on the road. Any rain days during that stretch will be sure to cause havoc for the Playoff Hopeful Aztecs as they are currently only a 1 game out of the final Wild Card Spot.

Like last season, any rain days in the final weeks have the possibility to push the end of the regular season as the double headers could pile up... Which has already happened as two home games against Rockville were pushed to the just after the end.

This is no skin off Rockville's back since the Pikeman have already earned a 1st Round Bye. However, if Mexico City somehow survives and earns a Wild Card spot, that creates a distinct advantage to the their possible opposing team by giving them extra rest days, while Mexico City has to burn up starters and relievers just to make it to the end of season.

While it seems that having a Open Stadium in a rain forest is an inconvenience for visiting teams, it sure looks like it's a major headache for the playoff hopeful Aztecs... However, GM Fred Holmes continues to disagree.

JL WILD CARD - 4 Teams - 3 Spots - 2 1/2 Games
Speaking of traffic jams, the Johnson League Wild Card is a completely up in the air with 4 teams only being the separated by 2 1/2 games for 3 spots.
Brooklyn Robins +1 1/2
Las Vegas Hustlers +1
Huntsville 0
Mexico City Aztecs -1

Las Vegas will be heading into double header hell Mexico City next week. With Mexico City's schedule already packed, any rain hiccups there would push those games to 2 days past the end of the season. It could set up for an interesting show down for the final Wild Card being decided between these two and maybe a final one game playoff with the race being so tight while the rest of the league sits back for the show.

INJURIES HIT BEARS IN WEAK SPOT
The Baseball Gods could have wipe out two or three position players on the San Fernando Offense and the team might have barely blinked. However, the Gods decided to take out 2 out of SFB's top 3 starters... a devastating blow for any team heading into the playoffs.

However, with San Fernando's Historic BBA offense, there's still some hope. The Bears have 3 hitters with 40+ homers, including Maldonado with 53. 8 out of 9 starters have 20+ homers... with SS Angel Garcia almost there with 16.

With two weeks left in the Season, the Bears have already shattered the Single Season Team HR record set last season by Jacksonville (337 SFB vs 306 JAX 2036).

Looking forward to possible Play Off Match Ups. As it stands now, San Fernando would be facing up against Madison.... Another team with questionable starting pitching. The Wolves Starting Team ERA is 5.41 (12th FL), but has the 3rd Scoring offense in the league. Fans might be treated to Softball Game type scores in the Wild Card Round if these two should match up.

Vegas is fading fast. At one point we had a 9 game lead on the top Wildcard spot. We're now TRAILING Brooklyn and just a losing streak away from missing the playoffs completely.

I don't play Mexico City much, so I get that I dodge the headaches, but I'm kind of with Fred on this. The silliness of it is kind of fun. Also, given that you have expanded rosters, it's not as bad.

I never had a 9 game lead but have been in the mix all season but I share your concern in Madison over the losing streak ending things....

I've been pondering it a lot and it seems like you could be an advantage for a micromanaging GM, too. Lots of opportunity to skip 5th starters and such with extra 'built in' days off. Probably less starting position player fatigue, too, maybe allows them to get extra ABs to starters vs. other teams.

Really like this feature, BTW.

And I'm cool with the rain outs if Fred is. :)

I think I'm 2-10 in the last two sims and it's just heartbreaking.

Don't fret. I've already written about how you or Seattle are going to overtake Madison for the final WC. TC is a lock for #2.

Boise kicking ass and taking names down the stretch in an effort to avoid getting an early draft pick. Still no mention.

I agree... It's definitely fun to watch... from the Outside.

I guess I need to take back what I said about Rockville locking up a 1st round bye, I thought they were further ahead. They're up three games currently.

That means their double header against Mexico City after everyone else's season concludes might be bigger than expected... for both teams. If Rockville loses out on their bye after having to play a doubleheader, it might put a nice dent in a Wild Card matchup.

Stay tuned...

Getting there... lol

Sorry, I just open up the league and start glancing around for stuff that looks interesting. I haven't even mentioned TWC yet because I didn't see anything really newsworthy yet.. at least league wide news.

Ha...there's nothing newsworthy about Boise. Believe me...

Dude, your reverse psychology isn't fooling anyone... lol.

However, it's be great for a real MLB GM announce something like that in the closing weeks of playoff run.

"Don't get your hopes up Dodger fans... the Cubs will be coming to town next week and sweeping LA to knock us out of the playoffs. Yup, you heard it here!"

I think Mexico City will be the odd team out. September call ups or not, that schedule is a grind. They'll either need to pitch people on short rest or use a 7 man rotation.

It's like they have deep and talented staff. But playing that many games in such a short span lowers the percentage of innings by your better pitchers.

Don't worry about not getting mentioned... the Talons only make the news when we lose a pitcher for the year...
