This Week in the BBA - Notes & Highlights (2037 - Week 13)

Random News from Around the League

Image
Beisbol Coach extratrodinaire, Domingo Ayala, is reaching out to BBA teams around the league after it continues to appear that Professional Baseball players are unable to run the bases without hurting themselves. 13 Players had to leave games in the last week due to being injured while base running...

Image
Including Omaha SS Harlan "Day to Day" Moore who hurt his back in a collision against Twin Cities on 6/23. Moore's bones and ligaments must be nothing but scar tissue at this point, having been listed "DtD" an incredible 28 times and "Out" for longer than a month 5 times since the beginning of the 2032 season.

1B Mark Simpson
.346 BA, 5 HR's Last 5 games

Mark "2nd Chance" Simpson added his name to the list of player who have tied the Frick League Single Game HR record by hitting 3 Home Runs in the wild Game against San Fernando. It was an exciting affair that saw 9 Home Runs total banged out and 14 Pitchers used. Mark Simpson's 3rd Homer in the 7th turned about to be the eventual deciding run that allowed Long Beach to win 11-9. The week concluded with the Surfers going 6 wins with 1 loss.

While Simpson is a having another nice year, prior to this week, his projected power numbers were below his career average (OPS .865 vs .916 Career). However, Mark's hot week with him adding 5 Homers to his season total has bumped his OPS to over .900 for the first time this season.

"I can't explain it... it's just this feeling. One morning last week I woke up feeling like I had dodged something big and was just energized. I'm seeing the ball better and my swing feels fantastic... just smooth and easy. Whatever it is, I'll take it and not ask too many questions." Mark commented on his recent surge.

SP Bobby Lynch
3 Wins - O Losses, 1.05 ERA in last 4 games

Bobby Lynch continues to lead a Dominant Pitching Staff (2nd ERA - Frick) who team's success has been powered by it's 6 Man Starting Rotation. Some may question a pitching strategy that gives one of the best pitchers in the league fewer times out on the mound and as a result fewer innings (Frick League Games Started Leader- 22 vs Bobby Lynch - 15 Games), though Lynch missed 2 games in the rotation early in the season. However, the strength of the Jackrabbit rotation appears to be consistency of quality pitchers up and down. The #6 Starter, Hiroyuki Rin is pitching fantastically (6-2 2.59 ERA - 14 Starts), though he is on a strict pitch count due to his inability to go deep in games. But it could be said that with Rin as a Starter, he's able to have a much greater impact on the team than if he was stuck in the Bullpen and getting fewer innings.

In the last week, Edmonton went 6 & 1, extending their Frontier Division lead over the Seattle Storm to 5 games.

Nashville's recent wheeling and dealing has neglected to pay dividends yet as their downward trend continued last week. In Goat's last 13 games, they have 2 wins and 11 losses. Nashville lost their hold on the final JL Wild Card spot this last week and dropped below .500 for the first time this season. At only 1 1/2 games behind Montreal for a playoff spot, it's far too early to hit the panic button. However, Goats need some of their key players to start producing...

10 Time Gold Bat Winner, Cisco Arreola, has yet to find himself at home as a Goat after playing 13 seasons in Des Moines after being traded earlier this season. Cisco is struggling at the plate, hitting .197 with 5 HR's in 25 games since coming over. He's gone hitless in his last 5 games, dropping his OPS close to .700, almost .200 points lower than his .903 career average.

SS Tu-Fu Yong
.247 BA / .765 OPS in 2037
The Goats also need their stud Shortstop Tu-Fu Yong to wake up. He's currently far off this career best 5.0 WAR he put in 2036. However, he's too good a hitter to be slumping much longer. The Goat's need both him and Cisco to heat up and power the offense to return to contention. The pitching staff is ranked in the middle of the Johnson (8th ERA) and won't be able to prop the team up if key offensive players continue to struggle.

The offense will show some flashes for a sim or two and then they forget to show up for work for a while.

Anxiously waiting for the Next Sim to play out is the closest a grown adult can get to waiting to open Christmas presents as a kid.

If that makes sense

Louisville were over the moon to go 5-2 this sim, their best tally for the season. Players coming back to form, Sluggers to get near .500 ?
