MBWBA Longest Landis Drought

Post by JimBob2232 » Sun May 29, 2016 11:45 am

There are six teams who have NEVER won the Landis, three original teams, and 3 expansion teams. These teams have had some pretty good teams over the years, but have been unable to bring home the hardware.

Yellow Springs - Lost to New Orleans in the 2019 Landis in their first appearance. Made the landis again in 2031, but lost to Jacksonville, who at the time had also never won the Landis. Lost the Landis again in 2033, losing again to Jacksonville. Lost the cartwright cup in 2039 to Calgary (3 games to 0). Made a valiant attempt in 2041, but lost to Edmonton in the Landis. Lost again to Las Vegas in the landis in 2048.In 2050, Yellow Springs lost the Cartwright to Portland.

Valencia - Valencia had some golden opportunities between 2014 and 2023, but couldn't bring home the hardware. Valencia's first appearance in the Cartwright cup came in 1996 (loss to Chicago). They had many other chances to make the Landis, but came up short. In 2015 they lost the Cartwright cup 1996 to Louisville, this was followed up by losses in 2017 (Halifax), 2019 (Yellow Springs) and again in 2023 (Huntsille). They did make the Landis once in 2014, but got bested by New Orleans in 5 games.

Seattle - Lost the landis in 2002 and 2013. They have had their chances and blew them. In 2003, they lost to Las Vegas in the Cartwright. Made the Cartwright Cup again in 2024, but lost to a good Atlantic City club. After a 14 year drought in the Cartwright, they made it again in 2038, but got bested by eventual champion, Edmonton.

Phoenix Talons- An Expansion team in 2029. Has never made the Landis.

Twin City River Monsters- An Expansion team in 2029. Has made the landis once in their history (2055 when they lost to Charm City)

Charlotte - An expansion team in 2040. Has never made the Landis.

Portland - Made the landis in 2049 for the first time in team history, losing to Las Vegas who closed out a 3-peat. Also lost to New Orleans in the Landis in 2051.

Vancouver (2000) - Lost in subsequent appearances in 2006 and 2008. Lost the Cartwright in 2003 (California) and 2004 (to New Orleans) and again in 2009 (Madison). After a long drought, made the cartwright in 2041, but lost to Yellow Springs 4 games to 0.

Des Moines (2007) -
After winning the Landis in 2007, Des Moines had a 44 year playoff drought. They finally made the Landis again in 2056, but lost to Rocky Mountain

Madison (2009)
- Lost again in 2012. Lost to Halifax in 2020 and Louisville in 2021 in the Cartwright Cup.

Montreal (2011)
- After winning it all in 2011, Montreal has not made it back to the Landis. In fact, they didnt even get back to the Cartwright cup again until 2029, where they wound up losing to Las Vegas. The same thing happened again in 2030.

Calgary (2021) - Calgary won it all in 2021, and has made several attemts at winning the landis since. Made the Cartwright Cup in 2032, but lost to the eventual Landis champion Louisville. Made Cartwright again in 2034, but again lost to again to Lousiville. Made the Cartwright in 2039, but lost to eventual landis champion Jacksonville. Lost to Eventual Landis Champion Edmonton in 2041 Cartwright cup.

Atlantic City (2022) - Lost the Cartwright in 2023. Back to the Landis in 2024, but without the success. Tried again in 2025, but lost to Birmingham in the Cartwright Cup. In 2032 they again lost the cartwright cup to Charm City. In 2036, they again struggled in the Cartwright to eventual Landis winner Rockville. In 2050, Atlantic City tasted the landisa gain, but was bested by the Nashville Bluebirds.

Hawaii (2010, 2025) - Won The Landis in 2025. Made the playoffs again in 2026, but was unable to repeat.

Brooklyn (2026) - Last in the Landis in 2026. Prior to that, they won the landis in 2013 when they were the Baltimore Monarchs. Made the cartwright in 2042 - but lost to eventual Landis winner Edmonton.

Chicago/Huntsville (1995, 1996, 2023, 2028) - Won it all in 2023 and again in 2028 (3-1 over New Orleans).

Long Beach (2029)- Long Beach was the last of the original BBA teams to make the landis, but they won it all in their first appearance in 2029. This was the year where they finally got out from under the shadows of Las Vegas and New Orleans, who both joined the Johnson Division in 2029. Ironically, it was the Hustlers who they defeated to take home their first Landis. They tried again in 2030, but lost to eventual winner Louisville in the Cartwright Cup. Made another run in 2031, but lost the Cartwight Cup to Yellow Springs. In 2036, they again struggled in the Cartwright losing 3-4 to San Fernando. Made the landis in 2044, but lost to San Antonio.

San Fernando (2034) - Won the Landis in 1983, then went on a 51 year drought before winning it all in 2034, the last year the franchise was in Havana. Lost the Landis in 2036 and 2037, both to Rockville.

Rockville (1997, 2020, 2036, 2037) - Franchise moved from Carolina to Rockville for the 2032 season. Won it all in 2020, and again in 2036. Repeated as Champs in 2037. Made a run in 2038, but lost in the Cartwright to Las Vegas, and again in 2039 losing to Jacksonville in the Cartwright. In 2043, they made the landis, but lost to Lousiville.

Jacksonville (2031, 2033, 2039) -After losing the Landis in 1998, 1999 and 2007, Jacksonville was on a long drought without making the Landis before beating Yellow Springs in 2031 (4 games to 2). The series was epic as neither franchise had ever won a Landis title. Jacksonville won again in 2033 after beating Yellow Springs, and again in 2039 after making the playoffs as a Wild Card team after beating Calgary.

Louisville (1980, 2030, 2032, 2042, 2043) - Won the Landis in 2030 after a 49 year drought. They also won the Landis in 1980 and again in 2032 (vs. Charm City) and 2042 (4-2 over Louisville). repeated in 2043 after besting Rockville.

San Antonio (2015, 2044) - Birmingham won it all in 2015 sweeping JL Champion Louisville 4-0. They made it back again in 2025, but wound up losing to Hawaii. Won it all in 2044 beating Long Beach.

Edmonton Jackrabbits (2038, 2041, 2045)- An Expansion team in 2029. Won their first Landis in an epic comeback fashion in 2038. Won their second in 2041 with a win over Yellow Springs 4 games to 3. Tried to repeat in 2042, but lost to Louisville 4 games to 2.

Omaha (1974, 2046)- In the second year ever of the MBWBA, the (Then) Marquette Suns won the Landis. Indianapolis has gotten close many time since, but has never again tasted glory. They did make the Landis series in 1996 (when they were the Austin River Bats losing to Chicago) and again 2023 (lost to Huntsvile)....but coulndt make it work. In 1999 they lost the Cartwright (Buffalo) and again in 2001 they lost the Cartwright to Las Vegas. Then they went on a drought until 2021 when they lost 4-0 to Calgary in the Cartwright, and again in 2026, Indy lost to New Orleans in the Cartwright Cup. The franchise then moved from Indy to Omaha in 2033. Omaha made the Cartwirght in 2044, but lost to Long Beach.

Las Vegas (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008, 2027, 2040, 2047, 2048, 2049) - YAWN. Won the Landis in 2027 after a 19 year drought. Also won it all in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008. Won 3 in a row from 2047-2049 becoming the first team to win 3 in a row in league history.

Nashville(2017, 2050) - Took care of Atlantic City in 2050. First landis since 2017 when they bested the Carolina Kraken. Lost the landis in 2052 to Mexico City.

New Orleans (1974, 1984, 1988, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2051) - New Orleans has 8 Landis titles, most recently by beating Portland in 2051.

Mexico City- (2052) After many years of getting close, Mexico City finally won it all in 2052, besting Nashville 4-0 for thier first ever championship!

Sacramento (2002, 2024, 2035, 2053) - Took home the landis in 2024 (vs Atlantic City) and again in 2035 (vs. Rockville) and 2054 (vs. Mexico City). Lost the Landis in 2054 to Charm City in their most recent landis appearance.

Charm City Jimmies (2054, 2055) - An Expansion team in 2029. They were the first expansion team to make the Landis, appearing in 2032. It was a long time for them to win the landis, but once they did they wont it in consecutive years in 2054 and 2055

Rocky Mountain (2056) - An expansion team from 2035 finally wins their first landis in 2056 besting Des Moines.

Has Yellow Springs appeared in a Landis or is Tuscon the only one without an appearance?

I'll have to dig. I did this relatively quick...so if you find an error or two, let me know, I'll fix it.

Good question on Yellow Springs. I'm fairly sure they "appeared" in 2017.

Glad I was able to avoid Chicago/Huntsville being 7th on this list. Wish I could've kept Omaha from being 6th... :(
