Ron Blogs the Draft
Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
You gotta feel for the Crawdads, who it looks like just got Auto'd, and end up with Closer prospect Jeffrey Baeza. That should give us all a big clue on how OOTP11 values players! Very interesting. While not a bad pitcher, by any stretch, you'd have to grade that selection out as a solid D-, given the other talent on the board.
Omaha catches the spoils of this devastating development, by nabbing Ginn at #9. Not-Larry really scored big here, I think.
In the Draft List categories, we had a couple more selections;
Vegas took Donald 'Iron Man' Noboru, a 10 contact talent SS with B+ defense and a great set of intangibles. I'm thinking Recte opted for a need, rather than the best on the board, though you could argue that point. I would have gone with Neely, instead...but whatever. Even more curious was Phoenix opting for Crackpot over Neely...not sure what warts people are picking on him, but I'd have taken the extra contact ability over Crackpot's balanced toolset. I mean, we're not talking about Ozzie Smith type of SS ability here, either.
I'm amazed that two 10 contact guys and those awesome catchers are going to likely fall into the teens.

Dumbass. We're already in the teens. Clearly, Ron's a product fo South Carolina public schools.

Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
Damn, I was really hoping Neely would continue to fall. Now all these damn catchers still on the board.
Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
No way I could pass up on John Neely. 10 contact and overall the best rated player left in the draft (8.6 potential average). He's not ideal in terms of personality and isn't a lockdown defender or a true burner on the base paths, but at 12 I can't really complain.mad0die wrote:Damn, I was really hoping Neely would continue to fall. Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
Yeah, that was a phenomenal spot to grab Neely.
I've got my decision narrowed down to 2 so just waiting to see how BIR goes.

Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
Yep, not surprised to see Neely go there.
Birmingham is really not in need of a catcher, with Pat Larkin Jr in the minors...I'm not sure where they go with this pick. Juan Dolezal is about as 'meh' as a 10 contact hitter could be, and even OOTP downgrades him in the star department. I kind of like Bison Tenniel or Michaël Scott here...both have nice upside, though I wonder if Scott's lack of Eye makes him a little less of a value, especially adjusting for position? I haven't looked at Austin's situation, but Joel is probably going to target one of these two guys, if he's not sold on a catcher.

Starting to take a look at what may be ther at #24, I'm not too unhappy.

I'm not taking a catcher. I've got two of the league's best young catchers already.

Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
The Bandits take Angelo Hidalgo, a 4* SP prospect...curiously, despite a slew of pitches and 17 Stam, OOTP thinks he's a Borderline SP. Thanks for that, Markus...I like this guy. 7/8/9 talents are nothing to sneeze at, and he is very well developed, already. I'd rate him as AA/AAA ready right now...just a couple of rating points in Stuff, and he could debut this fall, if Birmingham really wanted to push it. Not a bad acquisition.
Now we're to Austin, who says they aren't taking a catcher...I think they go with Bison Tenniel.

Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
I took Bison Tenniel. Little worried that he's not as developed some others, but he's a lefty with big power which is my most glaring organizational need.

Not only do I take four hours to make my pick, but then I take your player.mad0die wrote:Damn, I had talked myself into Hidalgo.

Re: Ron Blogs the Draft
I definitely think there's a drop off after Bloomquist. I think the umlaut king will be next...but people might also look at Yoder or McNeill. Baldwin has nice potentials, if you don't mind his noodle arm behind the plate. Or perhaps it's finally time to take the last 10 contact guy off the board.

Okay, I'm out for about 2 hours, so no notification PM's will happen for a while.
