2065.01 Marcel Revisited: Batters

[Bob Breum]

At the beginning of the season, I published Marcel projections existing BBA players. As you may recall, Marcel is a stats-based projection system developed by sabermetric god Tom Tango. It uses a weighted average of the last three seasons with some regression to the mean and includes an age adjustment.

Below I have listed those players who exceeded their Runs Created* projections by at least 25%. The Marcel projections are preceded by an "m"; the actual season numbers are listed after the projections. Only players with at least 100 actual plate appearances are included.

Nice work. Cochran's placement at the top of the list might have something to do with how poorly he fared in very short stints his previous two seasons.

My issue with using Runs Created is that it is a counting stat. Miguel Lussier, for example, basically matched his projection exactly but is an underachiever due to playing time.

This is why I chose it. Marcel projects playing time. I believe that's an important part of the projections.

I posted the complete Marcel projections in April. Feel free to review them against your players using your choice of metrics.

Sammeta played so well but he's up against Rollins who also played well.. I'm using him as a super sub right now but it's getting crowded.
