I'll take the positive GB with a slightly negative FB! Definitely an improvement over last season.

The Cougars OF should be better than a -8.5. Time to do some tinkering maybe.

How does one decipher this? I have no clue what each column means. Which is probably why Edmonton is in last place.

That said, I realized several weeks ago how atrocious our defense was, probably took me too long. So I set about to work some trades that would improve my IF defense without sacrificing offense. The result was two trades on June 9, this one and this one to upgrade defense at first, third and short without hurting offense.

I realize the position rating in-game is simplistic if not inaccurate, but this was the upgrade I made using those ratings:
Image

The two trades also allowed me to upgrade my CF from the now-released Antonio Gonzales (excellent defense but a .180 career batting average) to Todd Rice (excellent defense with a .330 career batting average).

That was a month ago, in-game. None of this will make this a strong defensive team, but I'm hoping at least that by season's end Edmonton will no longer be at the bottom of Ron's nifty chart.

The columns are Groundballs, Flyballs, Line Drives in Infield, Line Drives in Outfield.

The number represents how many balls in play your team has successfully turned into outs above or below the league average.

A team making outs at a league average rate would have 0 across the board (last row, "League")

Each update is cumulative, so you can decipher whether your defense is staying the same, improving, or worsening.

So, for EDM, the first chart is about 5 weeks in to the season, and your GB performance was -18.8

Second update, about 7 weeks later, you're at -26.0. So this tells us that your defense was below league average from 5/11 to 7/6, but was improved over the first 5 weeks of the season, relative to league average.

Hope that helps.

Absolutely that helps, thanks much for taking the time.

So since the trades we improved in GB but got worse in FB, for no net improvement.

I assume Ron pulls this data out of Stats+?

Todd Rice is not an excellent defender in CF. He's actually pretty bad at this point.

As for us, we usually have a better defense but I've been trying to get more offense out of us and that seems to be working. Bullpen is letting us down though.
