You need a manager. You like Las Vegas' Hitting Coach. There should be a way for you to get him.

Hhmm, I don't like it unless we restrict it personnel in their last year of a contract with no extension signed.
Otherwise only if the organization for who the coach works gives permission.
That would be sorta be just like real life.
Letting anyone able to get anyone would be a disaster in my opinion.

Right, that's why I'm asking for input here. However, I think it sucks that when someone looks for a manager they can't "talk" to another teams assistant.

I tend to agree with Joe.
Although I could see allowing teams to buy out a coach's contract from another team, but at a minimum of a 50% premium on his remaining salary years AND the agreement of the owning team.
No hostile take overs.

Re: Some way to hire other teams staff for a "promotion"
I understand and like the idea of a team having to give permission for say other coaches on the big league staff or maybe a clear heir apparent in AAA. But if we go this route i dont think a team shoould be able to hide awesome coaches in the minors and then refuse to let em go anywhere.

Why not? I assume the MBBA has been doing this since its formation.
And usually, awesome coaches refuse to sign below the ML, or AAA, level.

Re: Some way to hire other teams staff for a "promotion"
why not be able to stockpile coaches? the whole idea of all these offseason changes is to promote a more balanced league. It wouldnt seem to make much sense to then allow the big money teams to stockpile coaches. Personally i wish coaches progressed more like players. Every newb coach should start with ratings unknown and as they gain experience their coach ratings would become clear.

I think I agree with poaching minor league coaches for your MBBA team but don't agree with minor for minor league role or MBBA for MBBA if you see what I mean

Re: Some way to hire other teams staff for a "promotion"
yea i didnt mean it was cool to steal my super sweet AA coach just so you could plant him in AAA. I meant that if i was lucky enough to have awesome coaches that far down my system, I shouldnt be able to stop a diff team that has an MBBA vacancy from poaching him. If we think of it from the coaches perspective thats a major step up he gladly make. The gray area is when we have a coach in waiting situation. That could get muddy.

Re: Some way to hire other teams staff for a "promotion"
Since there is no in-game way to control this, I imagine any manual or exterior way to control this would be messy, muddy, and not worth it.
Unless we added something "simple" like you couldn't renew a contract for a coach below the AAA level before putting him on a "proposed re-sign" list. Then give 10 or 15 real life days for folks to say they want him (priority in inverse order of team standings?). But it could get messy and not worth it.
I guess the contract length of hiring coaches for initial contracts should be limited, as well. I guess to 5 years--since that is built in, isn't it?
I am not sure coaches below the AAA level are all that important to warrant such a system. There seems to be enough of them to go around for GMs who pay attention, or care about this aspect of the game.
I campaigned for more, better coaches soon after joining the league, and Matt created some.
Or, hell, just get rid of coaching.

I recommending waiting until ootp13 to do this. Does 13 handle this any differently?

THIS!!! (Damn, that about gave me an aneurism...)recte44 wrote:NEVER getting rid of coaching.
Getting rid of the influence of having the right coach for the right mix of players would be moving drastically away from real-life baseball. When I've read things from players doubting the impact of coaches in OOTP it blows my mind. You can't just hire a LEGENDARYx5 coach and put him anywhere with success. A lot of factors to consider...

Re: Some way to hire other teams staff for a "promotion"
The problem with implementing this and other "extracurricular" activities to the league hinges on the part - sometimes a large part, sometimes small - that requires an AI decision. There is a way to cover that, but no way that tightly integrates with OOTP's true model.
For instance, I can write a program, or even a table for rolling a 20-sided die (yes, I played), based on game theory that would generate responses from the coaches based on all the known aspects of the coaches. But even if I had access to the true numbers in their ratings I couldn't hope to guess how much weight the OOTP engine gives those numbers under different circumstances, so I couldn't claim my logic to be 100% consistent with the coaches' overall behavior in-game.
