Re: Off-Season Suggestions
We can't do dibs, there's not a great way to do it that wouldn't skew league talent levels.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
if im understanding this correctly aren't u simply editing a player that fits the create an ammy criteria rather than actually creating him? If this is the case why not just edit the ammy after hes been drafted? people can then come up with theses interesting stories for their own newly drafted players.

I would think that this would make a mess of the history tracking...bschr682 wrote:if im understanding this correctly aren't u simply editing a player that fits the create an ammy criteria rather than actually creating him? "Suns Draft Joe Smith"
Now all of a sudden Joe Smith disappears and Mike Rotchitchez is in his place? I can see your point but I'd prefer this not happen.
I like the randomness of us creating the ammys but we may end up playing against them.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
I like creating them and just let them be drafted. Id love to see Ad Collins on the Wolves opposed to rival Omaha, but oh well. It still allows us to personalize some of the guys in the league and create names we have ties to instead of just all random names...
And I don't even mind if my guys are the top prospects. If my creations are low level guys, then it gives me some ties to the crappy rungs of players that inhabit my Low and Single-A. I'm more likely to keep and follow a crappy player who I created instead of the crappy ones I have there now. I'll draft a crappy guy I created just to have him in my Low or Single A levels instead of the random guys there now.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
I like this idea...but i like it alot more if it means nothing to the other owners. For instance, if I create Robert White, nobody else would know or frankly care that it is a custom amateur, and you can maintain that level of excitement over him.
But if I create Mikheal Gorbachov, now thats just silly and I think detracts from the league.
Like everything else, its all in the execution.

Isn't it your job though to create that excitement by writing about his history?JimBob2232 wrote:I like this idea...but i like it alot more if it means nothing to the other owners. Re: Off-Season Suggestions
Exactly. If you have a bunch of half star guys in your system, at least a few of them can have interesting names or stories. Kind of like Tigers catcher Maxim St. Pierre, a French Canadian who spent 14 years in the minor leagues before finally getting called up 2010, appearing in 6 games for the Tigers. It was actually somewhat of a news story around here.7teen wrote:I'm more likely to keep and follow a crappy player who I created instead of the crappy ones I have there now. Great example! Should the guy have chosen hockey instead of baseball, I wonder?jiminyhopkins wrote:Kind of like Tigers catcher Maxim St. Pierre, a French Canadian who spent 14 years in the minor leagues before finally getting called up 2010, appearing in 6 games for the Tigers. Re: Off-Season Suggestions
Heres a good article about St. Pierre.
I was actually at the Mud Hens game when he was informed of his callup to the bigs. It was after the 4th inning, and the Toledo manager met him at home plate and told him the good news.
