Player Nicknames

Post by Ted » Fri Jan 18, 2019 1:22 pm

This isn't that important, but it's always annoyed me when custom nicknames get added to the nickname "pool" and later applied to players for whom they make no sense. I don't suppose we could compile a list of them, and any time a new ammy comes up with a repeat of a custom nickname, any GM who has him can remove it for free. (No new one, because that would just compound the problem). Maybe no one cares. Like I said, it's not a big deal, just something that irritates me a little.

Guess I haven't been around long enough to see the repeats... but it's wierd they get thrown in a pool.

It's always bugged me though how these Sports Simulation games will repeat an uncommon last name. There's no obvious reason why one name would be picked to be constantly used, but when it was, it seemed to be all over the place.

There's like 5 Wareham's running around in the BBA... lol.

In Front Page Sports 95, I remember the name Dahl being repeated used... It was weird.

As for Nicknames... It makes sense to allow an option to remove one in the offseason. Maybe if you've had the player for a certain # of seasons or drafted them.

I'll start getting a list together in another post. If you created a custom nickname ever, feel free to reply to that post, and I'll add it. Again this is only custom nicknames. If the default ones get repeated and suck (As the do), whatever. But there's only one OBP jesus and that's Mike Clarke. And eventually we're going to have, Francisco "Dave Wifler" Hernandez and that's either kind of awesome or completely nonsensical.
