I guess. I simply don't like either idea. If our goal is to protect new owners, we don't do that nearly any better by letting people trade recent picks; we can also arrange to have picks made for us by the other team pre-draft, which is awfully close to trading draft picks. Make them wait until the end of the year until they deal. It's also good to protect owners in other ways; it's nice to know what you have, and you get a better idea of that by the first offseason.

I know this is an overdone topic at this point (and I'm personally indifferent on the issue), but if we are looking to avoid mass sell-offs of picks we can look at something similar to what the NBA has. They have a rule that forbids trading first round picks in consecutive years, in part because an owner in the 80s went crazy with trading them.

I wouldn't be upset either way, but a lot of online leagues who trade draft picks wind up with some weird dynamics going on. The value of picks is an interesting social experiment.

I have a great idea

You can only trade draft picks from the year of that draft during the draft itself

It lets people trade draft picks. And it won't destroy a teams future...

I'd be more inclined to believe lifting restrictions on trading recently drafted players is better than allowing draft pick trading (the whole present VS future argument that indiansfan mentioned). I'm admittedly biased against draft pick trading given it isn't something that occurs in MLB, but it could be feasible with the restrictions others have discussed (limit to only the upcoming draft or the NBA draft pick trade limitations). I'm not passionately against it, but I'd be inclined to leave it at is.

I'm lukewarm on all draft pick trading. If we were voting on it, I would vote no but mostly I'm a shrug. I don't see a great value in allowing trades of picks. That said, you guys figure out the rules and I'll play by them. ;)
