I was pretty sure you were kidding, but I was surprised people got behind it.

You could say it is relegated to the back of one's vocabulary.scottsdale_joe wrote:Relegation is such a nice word. You don't get a chance to use it much.

Re: Trans-Atlantic Classic
As an aside, fans of any major professional sport in the U.S. who talk about relegation sound the same, to me, as those folks who complain that our government is not like that of so many European countries. The idea may be nice but it simply and absolutely can't work here. We don't have the historical foundation and our current systems, and everyone's way of thinking, would have to be completely torn down. The AAA Charlotte Knights just built a brand new stadium but would still not be able to make close to enough money to compete at the MLB level. Meanwhile, any team relegated down, including a team like the Yankees, would immediately lose half their fan base and so, by extension, would baseball. The Yankees playing in AAA with Yankee Stadium 3/4th's empty? *shudder*
And, yes, the same problem would apply in the much younger MLS. People underestimate the generational and mostly socioeconomic (most people in Liverpool live drastically different lives with distinctly different values than those in, say, Chelsea) ties that bind European fans to their clubs. Attendance for Swansea City doesn't change whether they are playing in Premier League or Championship.

Re: Trans-Atlantic Classic
But, yeah, Trans-Atlantic Classic. Just no. There is too much of a gap in player quality between the worst MBBA team and the best EBA club. A chasm, really.

Re: Trans-Atlantic Classic
I think you might be underestimating the EBA a tad (or at least the rebuilding efforts of some MBBA squads). That said, they would certainly be a heavy underdog.
There's no question in my mind though that an EBA All-Star team would be awfully competitive against Greenville or Madison.

Re: Trans-Atlantic Classic
I'd be willing to bet an EBA All-Star team would beat at least a half dozen teams in the MBWBA. I don't think a team could win a series straight up. But an EBA All-Star team could most definitely.Chey wrote:I think you might be underestimating the EBA a tad (or at least the rebuilding efforts of some MBBA squads). Re: Trans-Atlantic Classic
Right, if you just look at the 2023 Platinum Stick Winners, 6 of the 9 (Cirolli, Tyldsley, Lamberts, Salazar, Baca, and McPherson) are now in the MBBA and two of the other three easily could be (Jaso and Martínez)7teen wrote:I'd be willing to bet an EBA All-Star team would beat at least a half dozen teams in the MBWBA. The EBA winner would probably lose 9 of 10 (or more) to the worst MBBA club, but a collection of EBA's best could certainly compete with the MBBA's worst team.

Any word on this? I like the idea of some sort of series or small tourney.
