First/Last Name: Renato UmaliI began my sim baseball life with SherCo Baseball in the 1980's. Using a random number generator on my Commodore 64 (later 128) and my 1968 Baseball Encyclopedia, I created 12 teams with such derivative names as the Kansas City Kings and the San Diego Skinners. I sought to play out an entire season, keeping stats by hand and transferring them to the computer. I think I got to May. But it was a great experience, and introduced me to such players as Vince and Dom DiMaggio (the random number generator never got Joe!) and unknowns such as Stan Jok. I eventually ported the team to Earl Weaver Baseball but, while I played the heck out of that game, I never finished my original league.
I'm a fan of Robert Coover, author of The Universal Baseball Association, Inc., J. Henry Waugh, Prop. And I met him once at a reading at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and I told him how I first read him in Playboy magazine as a teenager.
I'm a fan of Roger Angell. And I read (or re-read) at least one baseball book a year. Although I don't think I've read one yet in 2023.
I'm a diehard Mets fan, having grown up in the 80's and entranced by Strawberry, then Gooden.
I'm also a Brewers fan, having moved to Wisconsin in 1999. I've met the racing sausages, Hideo Nomo, and Rod Carew during one of the fan promo nights first at County and then at Miller Park. I actually went to my first playoff game (Wildcard game 1, Diamond Backs v Brewers) this year.
