Application from Doug Olmsted - New Applicant

Post by Anonymous » Wed May 29, 2019 3:51 pm

A user, Doug Olmsted, has applied with the following information using the application form.
Real name: Doug Olmsted
IP: 24.111.128.50
Email: dolmsted39@yahoo.com
Applying for: New Applicant
Reason for applying:
During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, the Unified Middle East Baseball Association (UMEBA) announced the possible hiring of a relative unknown for their vacant General Manager position, "Shoeless" db Olmsted.
"Many of you, I assume, have never heard of the man they call, Shoeless," a UMEBA represenative said. "But, let me assure you, he's highly regarded in the respected Sakakawea Baseball League of the Dakotas and Saskatchewan."
Olmsted was identified by UMEBA brass several months back. The group even took it upon themselves to meet with Olmsted at his home in rural North Dakota.
"Once we were able to shoo the chickens away from the table and get to hear his ideas on the proper management and development of ballplayers. We knew we had our guy," one representative who wished to remain anonymous said.
Olmsted gained notoriety for his back to basics style of play and his antics of never wearing shoes while at the ballpark.
"Those damned baseball gods want you wearing metal cleats or nothing," said Olmsted. "My playing days are long dead. What the hell use do I have for metal cleats?"
Representatives of the UMEBA hope to make a decision on Olmsted's future over the next several weeks.
First/Last Name: "Shoeless" db Olmsted
City/State/Country: Bismarck/ND/USA
Email Address: dolmsted39@yahoo.com
OOTP Forums Username: none
Desired Forum Username: shoeless.db
Date of Birth (MM/DD/YY) for in-game purposes: 4/28/1977
Occupation: Bookkeeper/Dabbling Lawn Game Designer
Other OOTP Leagues (with links): tsl2/Pittsburgh Pirates (I just took over at the beginning of the in-game season): statsplus.net/tsl
Have you read the BBA Constitution and agree to abide by its rules?: Yes
Do you own the current version of OOTP, and plan to buy all future versions?: Yes, OOTP20, and yes.
Do you understand the Participation Point System, and agree to be a regular contributor to our community?: Yes, that's why I'm here.
What interests you about the BBA?: The immersion. The story. Baseball is more than just numbers and stats. I'm relatively new to OOTP, having purchased OOTP20 on its release, but I've thrown countless hours into the game. I'd love to combine my love for baseball, my new addiction to OOTP, and my need to create.
Describe your GM style: Nothing is more beautiful than a ball hammered to the gap with the runners and the batter hustling around the bases. I prefer solid hitting, pitchers who create weak contact, and players with good heads on their shoulders.
Have you ever answered to the alias "Al Hoot"? (a little BBA inside joke!): I'd answer to anything if they're buying me a whiskey and coke, but, no, I've never answered to "Al Hoot".
Tell us more about yourself: 1. I was raised to play shortstop for the New York Yankees despite being taught to despise the Yankees. The dream was snuffed out after not being drafted after college or amateur ball. Although, I'm still holding out hope. 2. I'm an avid board game nerd. Nothing compares to competing against a bunch of like-minded friends. 3. I love a good story. I'll try any book or podcast if it has some teeth. 4. My wife lowered her standards to marry me, and, together, we have three children. 5. I've coached baseball for the past 10 years. I currently coach my younger son's league and travel teams. I require an old school respect for the game while promoting baseball's ability to allow for licenses to be idiots. We're going to learn, persevere, have fun, and get a lot better along the way. 6. My job allows for too much free time during the day. I fill it with researching random interests, writing, podcasts, Reddit, and OOTP.
How did you hear about the BBA?: OOTP forums

Sounds like a potential winner, and another one for our stable of real life youth coaches.

Welcome aboard, Doug. Jump on in. The water's great, trust me, as my brother said while freezing his ass off in the deep end of the pool. :)

Welcome, Doug! Impressive that UMEBA execs actually went out of their way to meet with you in Bismarck. It took my agent to come up with a Nigerian prince email scam to get them to finally talk with me. Anyways, looking forward to elevating the perception of the UMEBA to baseball circles around the world!

Thanks for the welcome, fellas, and thanks for having me. I'm looking forward to see where I end up unpacking my suitcase.

So, how many strikes and balls do the guys get? Also, how many points wins the game?

-- Kidding, this was a direct quote from a volunteer parent umpire about six years back. He learned about baseball just as much as the kids did that summer. I was just happy to have a guy willing to volunteer.

I'll take that any day over the dad in the stands complaining that my strike zone for his little leaguer is too big.

The exception to the rule: I'll draft a kid a round early if he's got a smoke show of a mother, two rounds early if I know we're having a post-season pool party.

Can someone link me to the forum thread detailing if the nickname, The Genius, is an honorary title, sarcastic designation, or self-proclaimed madness?

The Genius isn't a thread, he's a personality. An ego. Larger than life. Bigger than all of us.

Also. He's Wichita's GM, and the former GM of Louisville. Read some of his stuff. You won't regret it.

Welcome to the club, by the way.

I probably should...I mean who wouldn't want to watch 9 year olds walk 10 batters per inning and have the game last an inning and a half before the time limit!
