If we have four serious GM's then expansion would probably help several elements of the league...four more teams would soak up more of our talent glut...removing interleague might help the schedule weirdness, though I'm not sure of that.
just removing interleague without adding any teams would do wonders for the schedule.
Adding four teams, and keeping the playoff structure the same would also serve to help the trade market. With nearly 40% of teams going to the playoffs, there are fewer sellers (over half the teams are competing). In a league with talent gluts, that alters the economy in interesting ways.

The main downside to adding teams (beyond the admin bump) is what happens if most of the GMs dump and run.

Which has been my concern in the past. We had a couple speed bumps going to 28 teams but so far it's worked.

I must confess as I have often said in print out of all the leagues I have ever been in, and they are legion, I have always declared that Matt has been my favourite Commish. He’s put up with so much from me and still always seemed pleased to see me reappear again. I have turned out some good writing in this league, not the analytical stuff that Ron and several others of you are so good at, more of the human interest stories

And I’m getting quite good at the hello and goodbye letters :) :) :bye:

I don't want to minimize the concern, but there are values to 32 given where the environment is. And, on the whole, the GMs here are currently both quite stable (I mean other than the Genius and the Brain, of course), pretty engaged, and very good. If there's a time to roll the dice, this could be it.

I agree. We have a strong group and a lot of candidates. You may not have a better time. Especially with us moving to 19 soon. Should be easier to get a new GM if we really need one.

But I am fine with how it is now. I'm not necessarily advocating for change. Just seems like if that is an option, this is a good time.

Doesn't necessarily have to be 32 by the way. 30 works fine for that sad sack failing MLB league

32 is more comfortable, but 30 can be made to work, too. If we were a real league, two at a time is probably best. But as a OOTP league, there's probably admin value in only expanding once.

I'd like to campaign for a smaller roster...perhaps 26 player...

This is my favorite thread of all time now. I think I’d want to jump to an expansion team. Let one of the newbies have my nice farm.

Nooooooooo ! I'm a great fan of the DH in ootp, it gives you somewhere to use all those useless DH/1B types that build up and up. If you haven't got a DH slot to slip them in you lose a lot of great veterans before their time. Please don't go down that route

You have a topic for episode 3. As an expansion team GM myself, I hope I can make that one.

I'm pro DH for what it is worth, indifferent on interleague (although prefer to see that balanced at least), and intrigued by expansion if we have legitimate owners.
