Draft Chatter

Post by nverhoev » Thu May 17, 2012 12:20 pm

Hey, why not?

I pretty much was going to select a starting pitcher regardless. I was hoping that Johnson 'Train Big' Walter would somehow fall to me but no luck. Also like Daniel Paz if he lasted to 15.

I barely got away without an autopick on Paz...I think he was the last guy on my list, just about everyone of whom was taken 1-8. Whew!!

Felt like I got a pretty good player all the way down at #13 with Harvey Newton. Was actually kind of surprised to see someone of his calibre still available with 9 contact and 8 power. Average defense and low intangibles might have done it, but still seems a better outfield choice than Monty Cunningham, taken at #7, as well as some of the pitchers. I guess it is a matter of taste. Part of what makes the draft fun.

We certainly didn't need an outfield prospect, and I seriously considered going with Trey Williams, who ended up going at #18.

Very happy to get IF Pedro Pineda.
Good hit, good field, great speed. Little power.
Could be Brunson's eventual replacement and a good lead off hitter.
I'm a little disappointed he's not more developed at age 22.

Barnstormers pick due Thursday by 6:15pm.

6:50 pm? It's after 8pm EDT.

It's this inconsistency that especially bugs me.

Point taken, but the main reason I chose Cunningham is because he could be in the majors by next spring.

Uh huh.
I guess the utility sucks.
But life will go on.
Actually the draft has moved remarkably well.
But that's my opinion.

Same here with the catcher I chose. Better prospects out there, but my catchers are old and he is almost ready for the majors now. I have no elite catching prospects in my organization. I don't really need another OF.

This is the quickest it's moved along in my three seasons. With two kids, one who plays baseball, it gets tough to stay on top of it sometimes. I can set it to auto draft, but that takes the fun out of a rebuild. The pace has been perfect in my book.

Pace seems fine to me. I'm with Mike, seems to be running faster than prior years. Joe should be in charge of this from now on :)

I picked up another good pitcher to add to the system, and passed on some pretty good hitters in the process. As anyone that has played me can tell you, it has been my pitching that has held me back...my offense is still pretty young. I need to build a strong staff going forward, and my first pick was a step in that direction...

Could you guys please make some dumb draft picks! I put 10 guys on my draft list, I go to bed and when I get up almost all of them are gone. Now I have to update my list again. Seriously in a couple leagues I have been in a 30 guy draft list would last me through 4 rounds because of guys making stupid picks. Must be some smart guys in this league. :)

My only other league now is the PEBA where you HAVE to make a draft list long enough to cover the first seven rounds. If you're drafting 20th that's 140 players so don't be so lazy with your 10 :coffee:

The 10 was just to get me through to my next pick which was 12-13 picks away.
